What got people into the show? What cemented it as a great show? Ned getting killed first season was the critical moment. The Red Wedding made people freak out. Cersei blowing up the sept and Tommens demise. The understanding that the good guys don’t always win. Sometimes life kicks you in the balls and laughs at you. Episode 2 should have been made a bit longer and been episode 1. Battle of Winterfell needed more skins on the wall for the NK. Jon or Dany or Tyrion should have died. That’s not what I want necessarily but it’s what made the show what it was. We lost a eunuch (not the good one) and Ser Friendzone.

it wasn't just that ned died, and the red wedding happened. ned's death was so pitiful for him. his last words were betraying his own honor, and going against everything he believed in. just to make sure he could save his daughters and family. and he got his head chopped off anyway.

catelyn spends the next 2 seasons away from her home, pleading for an end to war while working with her son, only to watch him be killed in front of her, and be killed herself.

it's the stakes of the deaths that made them heartbreaking. if you're just ticking off characters to kill, then you're missing the point of the show.

what makes "the long night" deaths feel empty is that they were destined to die, and it was telegraphed that way.

So, how would you fix the show in 3 episodes Mr. WZ?

I've heard episode 5 is even more intense than The Long Night, which leads me to think episode 4 will be a "come down" episode. Hopefully some good old-fashioned character moments and plot development.

Given the way things went with the Night King Cersei is probably going to die from something like diabetes. The episode will still go over well with fans because The Hound will swing a sword at The Mountain and because Sansa will blow a kiss at Tyrion.

I liked the episode, but the one thing I wished they would have done...which felt like they were getting ready to... was have the Starks rise from the dead. It would have been great to get zombie Catelyn Stark chasing Arya, for no other reason than it would have trolled the Lady Stoneheart truthers/fan club out there - who are still holding out hope that Lady Stoneheart will appear.
