An interesting read that gives me zero hope that meaningful change is coming to DCFS.

Apparently DCFS fields an average of 200 complaints per day. Some of which are baseless and some of which are legit. Every one of those cases is supposed to be treated as though it's a legitimate complaint.

I see no clear path the meaningful change.

They are just getting clobbered with so many more new cases without the funding to see them all through. I know many of the private agencies they work with are growing more and more frustrated with the whole situation. Most of the people we are involved with in RI county DCFS are great people who you can tell care about these kids. they are just stuck in red tape and a sea of duties that they can't possible do in 40-50 hours of work. Caseworker and investigator turnover is at an all time high right now.

What’s even worse is that there are that many piece of shit parents out there abusing their kids that there aren’t enough caseworkers or investigators to investigate them all. What the fuck is wrong with people .

I was listening to someone yesterday who mentioned how the kids in dcfs care now were increasingly born to people who themselves had been in dcfs custody. I can't think of anything worse than people who felt neglected by the system and now knowing how to abuse the same system as soon as one of their poor children is in it.

I'll be honest, i don't know if that # is actually growing. I think people are just more aware that some methods of parenting are actually horrible methods and I think the ease in which to make a complaint is gotten much easier and DCFS is woefully capable of handling all complaints.

I also believe there is plenty of laziness in the agency as well as with any gvt agency.

so far all of our placements came from people who were involved in DCFS in one way shape or form when they were children.

Does it really matter? They have a new boss every 6 months and pass the blame.

One thing seems odd in the way this stuff supposedly can’t be investigated. I would think with how easy it is for a wife to get a husband out of the house with a call to the cops something similar could happen. Other spouse or neighbor calls it in and cops come. Then DCFS.

It's a different threshold because oftentimes DCFS investigations are brought against couples who are still together who may not cooperate with DCFS. People looking for exclusive possession are already going through a divorce.

It is self evident to 90% of the US population, the agency is for that 10% of shitbags who need to be sterilized and lose custody. The agency drops the ball though, just eliminate it.

You can't decide who has kids or not. I don't know how much can be done when people mistreat them. I don't know if making things easier or harder is the answer. What's worse?

probably because you actually care and want to help coming in. But eventually get discouraged at all the bs.

I'd say mistreatment is a huge understatement when you kill them.

Getting rid of DCFS would cut down the amount of heat DCFS takes.

I get it. I have a family member that shouldn't be a parent and should have her kids taken away.

You can't tell people they can't be parents, and it's hard to take kids away, and who will take them?
