Guy; Hi, I'm here to speak to Frank for the interview

Me; Hey I'm Frank. Nice to meet you. It's 10:15 and you are scheduled for 11:00. I'm happy to talk with you and we can definitely start earlier, but I have a few things to take care of first so I'll need you to sit tight for a bit before we can proceed.

Guy; Oh, well I had something else come up and I need to be somewhere at 11:30.

Me; Well I just told you we can start early for sure, but it will be a few minutes before we get going and I can't guarantee we'll be done by the time you need to leave. Would you like a bottle of water while you're waiting?

Guy; Yeah I need to be out of here before 11, so...will that be the case?

Me; I just told you I can't promise you that, man.

Guy: Ok...... and then he walked out.

IMO, 45 minutes is way too early to show up for an interview and if something legitimate did come up and it needs to be rescheduled or whatever, call and see whats up before just showing up and expecting everybody to cater to you. Seriously, WTF is wrong with people?

If interviewing, the rule is show about about ten minutes prior to your interview. If you get there real early(to be safe in case of traffic-etc), that's fine but find a coffee shop next door to pass time... Any earlier and you come off to the employer as a desperate psycho that can't follow basic instructions.

That is pretty much my belief as well. I've definitely arrived in the area earlier due to traffic or just wanting to give myself enough time or whatever. But then I'll sit in the car and listen to sportsradio/music, and walk in 10-15 minutes early fully expecting to wait those minutes before the interview starts.

And got it over with early so he didn't miss his next appointment.

Great minds think alike.

We had a new guy start last week. I was the only one of the 4 people who interviewed him who was against hiring him. Called in sick with "insomnia" this morning. I'm already starting to feel vindicated.

To say that the labor market in this country is scarce would be an under statement.

Agreed. Need to open up the borders and replenish the market

Is driving a truck considered skilled labor? Really don't know.

maybe not skilled but it is quite risky given how dangerous of a job it is

Did I tell you that millennial associate quit for another position? At her exit, she still remembered that I didn't take kindly to her taking multiple days off because of a sick cat.

I find myself in a lot of offices lately. At the end of the day, every millennial wants to work at an office with a ping pong table and Taco Tuesday. Maybe throw a yoga class in there.

And with the current state of the labor market, it will only be getting worse.

I should point out that I love yoga, cats, ping pong, and tacos. Good for them.

I wouldn't say being comfortable at a place you spend 40% or more of your waking hours at is a bad thing.

And do you have a replacement yet?

I'm only batting 1-4 there.

Guess which one.

The early arrival wouldn’t bother me nearly as much as the “I gotta be somewhere else at 11:30” attitude. I woulda said “well, we wouldn’t want you to be late, so off you go, then!”.

People I know who are hiring agronomists at places like FS or any of the larger co ops can’t hire anyone. Salaries that people my age would of killed for right out college but they want a real set schedule and no working weekends at all. It just doesn’t work that way in this industry during certain times of year (perhaps it is time for some in the industry to adapt but that’s a different conversation).
