They're screwing with Mariano's, taking away the ethnic food aisles and generally making everything look chintzy and more confusing. Just couldn't leave it alone.

The Mariano's in Arlington Heights is rearranging but still seems to have the two ethnic food aisles.

It's been a slow death March since the sale.

I think maybe you're expecting too much. Their ethnic food aisles were always a little weird, with the flags and stuff.

I don't know, looked like they were clearing everything out of there and putting cereal there. Mexican and Italian are a few aisles over and there's a bunch of Indian/Thai stuff next to shampoo and hair dye over by the milk. It doesn't feel very intuitive.

Perhaps. One of the flags was for Lombardy! I had to look it up.

Krogers has destroyed Mariano's. The bakery used to amazing. They'd bake bread loaves in-store and be miles fresher than a supposed bakery in Panera. Their hot food section has been butchered. They used to make awesome (for a grocery store) Neapolitan style pizza. Now it's pre-made and heat up pan pizza.

The produce section has become total dogshit. Always half-stocked with the most depressing produce at horrible prices.

Their bacon is still decent but overpriced. Fresh Thyme has superior bacon at usually 2 bucks less a pound.

Krogers is a shitty grocery store. It's sucks so hard that hillbilly company took over Mariano's. Luckily we are blessed in Chicago with an amazing variety of ethnic grocers. Garden Fresh is great at produce. Tony's isn't bad either if you know you'll use the procure quickly. Otherwise it'll turn quickly.

Jimenez on Dundee is my go to for pre-made taco meat and packaged Mexican items. KD market just down the road at 83 and Dundee is great for deli items. Their kabanos is especially great

Having 10 different places you have to go for groceries is some hippie shit. Fuck that.

I have to agree with the decline. The Gurnee Mariano's was a relabeled Dominick's and aesthetically nothing special....but shit was always in stock. Bakery, butcher, and produce was great. The decline is very noticeable.

What about the lady playing piano at the front of the store? That's nice.

That Mariano's still doesn't skimp on. The Ravenswood Mariano's has a 3-piece jazz band perform on Friday's for the bar crowd. Gets really bumpin.

A sizable chunk of the inventory seems to have disappeared, but if you want pallets of bottled water, this is the store for you.
