And how. And 24 hours a day. The store I was at would generally get three truck shipments a day of gas. Between two registers on a busy 2-10p shift, it wasn't out of the ordinary to do anywhere between 24-35k inside. That would include people paying for gas inside, merch/food, and dreaded lotto. Our register devoted solely to counting outside sales (credit card) would regularly be around 40-50k by itself.
Days when there was a big lotto jackpot? double the inside sales easily.
That's a lot of 99c donuts and coffee and coke.
People either are never told or don't really pay all that much attention to where a lot of wasted money is. I used to get so mad at the ex about certain things like the gas station purchases we are discussing or my favorite check out line drinks and candy bars. One time I literally walked her back to the aisle and said you could buy a 6 pack of coke and multi pack of candy bars for what you spent in the line.
She never would change. Later in life it was a shake my head thing. When you are younger and just making it that can be a problem.
