It's insane. And you know these people aren't just staying home firing up Netflix.

Crossfit, Brunch, Parson's etc. Shit adds up.

Living it up is awesome. I want to know how they swing it. Factoring all taxes/benefits and 401K I'm taking 56% of gross pay.

High earners are fortunate Social Security hits a ceiling just over $100K but the math still doesn't make sense.

Sounds like my daughter. Her and her husband work downtown so they live downtown. She just sold her 4 year old car because she hardly uses it. She gets her groceries from Peapod and uses a zipcar when needed.

when was the last time you talked to your daughter? 2009?

they better reign in where the scooters can be parked... i was in austin recently and the stupid bird scooters were just everywhere. strewn about everywhere... it wasnt neatly organized like a Divvy rack... they literally are just lying around on their sides like garbage... it was basically exactly as depicted in the scooter south park episode

Bikes aren't ridden on the sidewalk. I was just in Memphis where they have these things. People leave them all over then place.

Chicago doesn't have the infrastructure to handle an influx of inexperienced people whizzing around on scooters at 15mph.

And the business model of these scooters companies dictate people litter city walkways, streets and yards with scooters.

We went to Central. Also, the Rendezvous because my wife had never been. Not the greatest food but good local flavor.

It's amazing how myopic the urban "planners" remain. The choice between cleanly/safely spreading out over a larger footprint is always passed over in favor of building vertically. Exacerbating all of those problems.

A perfect example are the current idiots in charge of the University of Chicago's planning group & the idiots with the proposed Obama center. They could've put that monstrosity on the western edge of Washington Park, supporting that still struggling area in clear sight of their western campus borders, but they chose a spot that makes no sense and will screw up traffic patterns for the south side, suburbs & NE Indiana. And btw, Washington Park is an area where they've been butting into housing/demolition court matters and running their private police army now for decades.

Or how the overwhelming amount of new construction is going up between 53rd & 55th streets which is already Wrigleyville dense. Instead of spreading it further into Woodlawn to better anchor and expand their southern campus.

The bigoted and short sighted policies Bernie Sanders was protesting against the U of C over in the 1960's are still in force today.

Pardon my rant.

Every time they show the Rendezvous on tv, the ribs look overcooked and dried out. I have about a dozen family members that live there, and I don't think any of them have ever eaten there. I specifically asked my godmother about the place about a decade ago & she looked at me like I was crazy. In 40 years, going there had never occurred to her.

They should put the Obama library in Jefferson Park, across from the train station. The whole city will fold in on itself.

At that level it's still the Friedman types who control the business & law schools as well. It's part of why I will probably always have a love/hate relationship with that institution.

You've always been consistent on this. Since I have relatives who work for the Booth School of Business, I hear about them all the time, and wow, they are . . much different from every other part of the university.

Rahm's right that the elites are getting away with too much: when you're not known as "Mayor 1%," you usually don't get op-eds published that read "my mom is 76 cockajillion times smarter than your dad" like a bickering first-grader.

Rahm who made millions as an investor banker through his political connections is now decrying that regular American's feel like the system is rigged an editor at The Atlantic.

He wanted to punish the bankers. Trust him.

To me it's more of a millenial playground.

Tried a scooter out this past weekend. Rode from Morgan & Lake up to Armitage & Humboldt. So around 4.5 miles.

The ride was a mixture of enjoyment and uneasiness. The scooters move quickly but bicycles are still much faster. Also you aren't as stable as a bicycle but still easy enough to balance. It's nearly impossible to signal turns while moving so that's an issue.

The scooters are nice if you stick to side streets and/or bicycle lanes. However, these would be a horrible to denser/busier areas like the RN/LP/LV corridor.

If Chicago commits to building better infrastructure to service bicycles and scooters then it would work well. It would be great to reduce the number of Uber/Lyft cars (and cars in general) on the road for scooters/bikes

You can save a lot of time jumping on an expressway and traffic only goes one way.
