He tried stepping in front of a bus after he blew that play in 86. The bus went through his legs

Seriously though, RIP, even if he comes up with that ball, the pitcher wasn't covering the bag in time.

Schiraldi is the one that blew the fucking Series . Low intelligence meatheads that know fuck all about baseball were the ones blaming Buckner . Nonwithstanding the fact they also blew a 3-0 lead in game 7.Glad the Red Sox brought him back couple years ago and let him have his moment on the field . Loved him as a Cub.

Definitely one of my all time favorite Cubs. RIP. Just saw a Twitter post saying he never struck out more than twice in a game. That's pretty amazing over the course of a career.

I just saw Len throw it to commercial saying Bill had died. :(

I remember after the last game of 1980 him being given the NL Batting Champion award which was cool but a bit odd considering the Coob didn't exactly have a reputation for winning awards.

I always have, and still will, feel so bad for him because of that World Series error.

I get the sentiment, but Tony Gwynn is sitting in the center of that picture of the best two-strike hitters.

never struck out more than 40 times in a season (Baez struck out 5 times today).

never struck out 3 times in any game.

Hard to believe in 22 years he was an All-Star only once.

.302 average with two strikes on him. Wow.

I remember walking by him on Rush Street back in the 80's. The dude was all muscle. It just seemed weird seeing him in his "Saturday Night Fever" clothes.

By time the Cubs got him,his knees were shot but he could still stroke a baseball. He was Larry Biittner with a nice moustache.

I too was surprised he was 69.

RIP

A true Cubs great. Always played through constant knee pain like Andre Dawson. Career regular season risp 5 points lower than batting average. The Dodgers Rick Monday trade for him benefitted both teams. A fan favorite, who played with a football or hockey player's intensity. Didn't walk or strikeout much. Born to hit. RIP Billy Buck.

As an NL player in SD, he was largely invisible to me, but yes, he'd be El Capitan

I don't think the Cubs had names on their home unis back then, so he's a moron, too.
