8:20-8:30 Mike talks about the Mariotti/Telander scuffle at the Sun-Times.

8:30-8:34 Mike starts in on Ken Griffey, Jr. and the possibility that he used PED's. problem is, Griffey's never been scrutinized in the same way that other hitters of his era were; it's pretty well accepted that he did what he did "the right way, the natural way" (thx RYNO). did Ken Griffey Jr. use steroids and HGH? "maybe Mike North knows."

prior to going to break at 8:35, Mike mentions that "street kids" are getting "the better" of "these journalists," presumably w/r/t the Sun Times? is Mike the "street kid?"

no break in between the segments, just awkward rambling from the doddering blowhard. someone please take this guy's microphone away, for good.

8:40 Mike asks Jen about Joe Cowley's absence from the show. At some point in the conversation...
Jen: "Don't ask me, I'm not a White Sox beat reporter."

I'm usually at work, but I have a few weeks off.

MNMS has been a must-listen in a train-wreck sort of way this week.

His whole infatuation with the Northwestern/Street Kid battle is very disturbing. He has a major inferiority complex.

Substitute '4 hours' for '15 minutes' in your title and you will have a description of the show pretty much every day.

Mike pretty much said that Griffey is guilty of using PED’s unless someone can prove otherwise. To that I say that I believe Mike North is guilty of having sex with men with huge uncut bananas and also Fred and the occasional Labrador Retriever mix. Prove me wrong Mike North. Having sex with Bebe doesn’t make you straight or prove that you are not bi or not a sexual deviant.

He's all Wolves this morning too, talking to ex-Wolve Nardella,
"Hey remember when the Wolves were talking of signing Probert"

This has never been true or talked of, and I loved how Nardella just kind of ignored it, then talked how they had Al Secord for a couple years.

North just kept ramming home the idea that the Wolves were trying to sign Probert? Like that would really pack the All State.

i hear you, but it was just especially weird to hear that 15mins of "spraying to all fields."

better yet was when they finally got cowley on the phone, and north ignored the parallels between mariotti and himself in order to draw more awkward similarities between he and the "workin stiff" beat reporters. strange stuff.

Since Mike doesn't know how to use a computer or the "interweb," he obviously wouldn't know how to find the AHL's website OR the attendance figures for each team...

http://stats.theahl.com/stats/schedule. ... ason_id=12

Mike complained about how the Wolves don't pack the Allstate Arena this morning...how they don't market the team better, etc. Well, Mike...according to the figures on the website above, the Wolves have the 4th highest average attendance in the AHL with 7,474 fans/game. They drew close to 300,000 total fans this past season.

Granted the Wolves are a minor league team and an affiliate of an out of state club. I agree with Mike that having the Wolves be the Hawks' affiliate would make more sense (though as a Rockford resident I think the Hogs and their affiliation with the Hawks is one of the best things about this town.) The Wolves are indeed a niche and, as such, will probably never be received as well as a major league equivalent. But c'mon...4th highest attendance (on average) in the AHL? Not too shabby.

And Mike bashes Rick Telander this morning around 8:30 about how he never came to do his radio show prepared. Learn to use the internet, Mike. You'd be surprised how much it helps with show prep.

Yeah, especially considered that the number is pretty close to that of Winnipeg, a former NHL city, that has just an insatiable appetite for hockey. I didn't quite realize what "hockey crazy" is until I spent a few months expating in the 'peg three years ago. If Stink and Slappy are anywhere near that nutty, I want to drink with these guys.

Mike would know a lot about not being prepared for a show, he has mastered this over the last 5 years.

Plus the Wolves are a very successful team in the AHL. It's not like a team that hasn't won anything; they've won their title four times, twice when it was the Turner Cup, twice since it became the Calder Cup.

Not too shabby.

One random comment like "can we have my evaluation at the Marriott" can bring quite a shitstorm.

And it's nobody's business if my boss is a man or woman.

Mike?? The Wolves don't market their team well? Who ya crappin?!! You can't open a newspaper or drive on the tollway without seeing an ad Choose Wolves '08. They even gave us free dinner for most of the playoffs. If you don't know what you are talking about, then shut up. Oh wait, that would result in 4 hours of dead air.
Also, I'm not sure if having the Hawks as their affiliate would be that much of a benefit to their attendance. Both Philly and Toronto have same city affiliates and fell behind the Wolves in attendance. In Toronto's case well behind. Rockford to me is close enough and has created a nice little rivalry. One of the nice things about being affiliated with Atlanta is they don't draft too many NHL caliber players so we are not plagued with all the call ups.
