Miniseries on HBO.

Solid first 2 episodes.

Very good through 2. Not as gratuitous as I thought it might be.

This series is fucking great. Lane from Mad Men is perfect for his role here.

Lane was great in his being found hanged scene. Penultimate highlight of Mad Men.

I had no idea that reactors 1-3 almost went up too. That would have been a nightmare.

This is probably my favorite genre, if you could even call it that, of entertainment. Historical shows, books, movies where you know something is about to happen or happening but the characters don’t. They’re usually not very uplifting, but oh well. “And The Band Played On” was a fascinating book as a yoot.

Me too. Fictional non-fiction. Killer Angels is the book that got me

The HBO adapation of And The Band Played On... was really good. What a cast. Alan Alda plays a great prick.

I just finished an AMC miniseries called The Terror. Its a survival thriller/Lovecraftian horror/historical fiction about Sir John Franklin's lost expedition to the Arctic in 1845. Jared Harris and Adam Nagaitis from Chernobyl play two of the main characters. I highly recommend it.

Wow. That's a really good point that I don't think I've ever articulated before, but it makes perfect sense.

I think we're gonna re-up with HBO in June when Big Little Lies starts again, and I think I'm forgetting another show.
Definitely going to watch Chernobyl.

Highest recommendation. This series is fascinating and pretty much a real life apocalyptic horror movie.

Good finale. Going back to see what happened and why the rush was crazy.

The post script scenes about the real life people were interesting too.

The firefighters wife ended up having a son. Good for her.

It began long before that. Great series though.

I'm surprised to see so much enthusiasm radiating from you guys about this show. I'll have to check it out.

I usually don't like mini-series because if they are really good I wish they would keep going and if they suck, well, they suck. But this was really well done IMO.

Perhaps the best HBO miniseries since Band of Brothers.

Fantastic all around. It shows you the true danger of authoritarianism and communism.

Fun fact, but 2 years after Chernobyl blew up, Bernie Sanders went visited the Soviet Union and spent the entire trip praising Soviet communism.

Correct, he's anti-American, Pro-Communism to the core. Wouldn't mind throwing him into the Chernobyl reactor.

Looks like President Trump needs to open an investigation into Comrade Sanders....

One thing you notice through the series is all the actors from Game of Thrones who end up in the series.

Tywin Lannister is the prosecutor in the finale.
Dagmer Cleftjaw is the army general from the last couple episodes.
Maester Lewin is the old Soviet leader from episode 1.

Agreed, and MANY reasons for the collapse of the Soviet Union. But Gorbachev did make that statement. I think Chernobyl exposed a great deal of lies about them, and brought a lot of western attention into their inner workings.

Finished episode two and will wrap up the series this week. So far it is very good bordering on great.

It's what helped him start Glasnost, he saw with his own eyes how the party would lie and conceal even great events like Chernobyl.

I guess it is due to his former Kremlin structure but it is surprising after Gorbachev and Yeltsin to a much lesser degree Russia allowed itself back into the Putin dictatorship.

A people that have come from some sort of autocratic centralized rule since the beginning, take a lot to change the arc.

Fantastic series. Highly recommended.

Only episode 4 seemed to have moments that dragged on a bit but barely. It was pretty fantastic from beginning to end.

I give it 3.6 Roentgen!
