If you refer to the person who owns the team as your "owner" then you're simply uneducated. This is a sad week for the NBA.

I don't think that is argument. I think people have a problem with it if they refer to him as "the owner" too.

What should they be referred to as then?

Owners

"I work for Jerry Reinsdorf's team."

"I work for a franchise owned by Jerry Reinsdorf."

"Jerry Reinsdorf owns the franchise I work for."

I get the "your" part of it. WHat if it is "the owner"? I think Draymond has a problem with it being used regardless of context.

Draymond has a problem with the English language then, and maybe all language since most if not all languages have a set of nouns and verbs that describe "owning." It's absurd. Again I think it goes back to guys not knowing how to use language effectively. I'm sure Green owns a property or two - he may even employ staff who work on the property. Does he "own" the staff who work on his property?

Guys just need to refer to NBA owners as people who own franchises and not the employees of those franchises. Draymond needs to be opposed here - if not, if he wins, it will further undermine how we practice and think of language.

There is nothing wrong with using the word owner. If it is used in the context of "your owner" "my owner" then sure feel free to have a problem. Not the word itself however.

Draymond is simply looking to continue modernizing the NBA. Management today is all full of MBA knobs anyway. Let's be on the right side of history and use douchebag legal/business lingo like "Principal Partner" or "Chairperson" instead.

Who says "my owner" or "your owner" though. If people say this when referring to NBA owners and when talking about players then they are simply ignorant of language. And if they're ignorant of language their opinions on language shouldn't be taken seriously. Instead of revolting against the dictionary Draymond should probably take a class on business law or something, or whatever course gets into the distinction between what exactly is "owned" and what isn't "owned" when you "acquire" things like a NBA franchise.

Does this mean they will stop using the term masters degree?

No MBA's for the NBA!

Whenever I hear the word owner used in a sentence it is invariably that the person is "owner of the team". I've never heard owner of the players. That is a misnomer

Draymond needs to read this. This is why he's wrong.

When Draymond speaks it sounds like he has brain damage, or a horrible learning disability.

Anyone taking his thoughts seriously on anything needs to be jailed and sterilized.

Draymont Green certainly seems like he has no problem with owning people if he is in charge:

Quote:
In fact, Green allegedly got in front of Edmondson—a recipient of a Michigan State athletic scholarship—looked him in the eye and said, “I know [n word] like you. I pay for [n word] like you scholarships.”

The conversation has been fueled by Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green, who first talked about the issue in 2017, and then brought it back to light on LeBron James' show The Shop in late 2018.

"You shouldn't say owner," said Green, who suggested teams use terms like CEO or majority shareholder, instead of owner. He continued his The Shop appearance by saying, "When you think of a basketball team, nobody thinks of the f---in' Golden State Warriors and think of that damn bridge. They think of the players that make that team... you don't even know what the f--- [the bridge] is called."

A year before that rant, Green said the term owner dates back to days of slavery, when, most often, aristocratic white men owned black slaves.

"Very rarely do we take the time to rethink something and say, 'Maybe that's not the way,'" Green said. "Just because someone was taught that 100 years ago doesn't make that the right thing today. And so, when you look at the word 'owner,' it really dates back to slavery. The word 'owner,' 'master' — it dates back to slavery... we just took the words and we continued to put it to use."

Is he saying the words "owner" and "master" did not exist until the time of slavery in the United States?

Sure seems that way.

What is truly offensive, honestly, is the ignorance in that quote.

Quote:
ORIGIN OF OWN
before 900; (adj.) Middle English owen, Old English āgen (cognate with German eigen, Old Norse eigenn), orig. past participle of āgan to possess (see owe); (v.) Middle English ownen, Old English āgnian, āhnian, derivative of āgen

Only reason Draymond knows what it is is because he recognizes it from when the slave ship he was on took them on a tour of the bay before docking and selling him into servitude .
