I think there's a market for it.

It's not Craig's List bruh. If Walmart is doing this I'm sure they're going to bake insurance clauses and other anti-theft, etc., guarantees into this. Might be a liability nightmare though if either the workers steal stuff anyway, or if the customers make fraudulent claims and Walmart has to bite the bullet or take a PR hit.

People pay to have their house cleaned while they are not home on a weekly basis.

They are wearing cameras.

Also, I like this touch:

Well, for one thing, I love armadillos. I studied journalism at a small liberal arts college in Ohio. And I am more or less totally on board with being part of the burgeoning chattel economy!

There are already several services that do that - Google, Instacart, Costco, etc. Think of those as "from store to door." Walmart appears to be trying to do "from store to fridge."

Wal-Mart has to make it economical to keep things consistent with their pricing strategy.

i saw something this morning that appeared to be like a hybrid of the box meal delivery services and Uber eats

basically you could order a 'meal' on a one-time basis and someone would deliver it to you with the ingredients chopped/prepped/etc. like the other services. I guess their angle is that you wouldn't be tied down to a subscription and be able to do it whenever you wanted

all this shit seems fucking ridiculous tho.

like i saw a commercial for a monthly toothbrush/toothpaste delivery thing ? who the fuck would do that

I know someone who has the subscription deal. It makes sense for that profile - single, active social life (i.e. would rather be out than spend time cooking), sufficiently disposable income, frequent traveler. It's the same type of person I could see doing the walmart thing, though that type of person may not be a typical walmart shopper.

I can't believe he turned out to be a theif/rapist/murderer. He listed three fun facts about himself on his application, and we thought that was a pretty soild screening process.

I would not do this, but Amazon had/has where the delivery guy can unlock their door and put the package inside. I read this are launching a garage door one as well.

Josh enjoys drinking Dr. Thunder, and eating Sam's Choice dog food. And when he's not filling out applications for foodstamps you can find him begging on your local street corner.

Why can't people shop and cook for themselves anymore? I think all these services are weird.

This is a way to keep people employed. Last time I went into Walmart half the checkouts are now selfserve.
This can not end well. I can also see a lawsuit coming from the areas that they will not deliver too.

Interesting that Wal-Mart expands their home delivery right after the USDA announces an expansion of the use of SNAP bennies for ordering foodstuffs online. Apparently food stamp recipients can even use their benefits to order from those Fresh Direct and Blue Waffle meal delivery services you hear advertised on podcasts; in addition to using food stamps to get groceries delivered from Wal-Mart/Target/Meijer/et al.
