I don't see how you can call a show that had the balls to make a Nazi POW camp as the setting of a comedy only 20 years removed from WWII as insipid.

Someone already touched on it, but every CBS comedy of this century can make the list.

Three's Company, outside of it's context is incredibly ho hum.

I recall in its time it was considered to be pushing the edge showing a man living with two women and open discussion about homosexuality

There was this ultra-sardonic period with Will and Grace (probably started with Friends, actually) where characters were just piling up insulting quip after quip after quip. That stuff does not age well. Two Broke Girls is that kind of show. May not be insipid, but that stuff is painful to watch after a while.

I think you can only include those shows that offer no challenge whatsoever to be in this category.

Currently a show like Mom is a poster child. It offers nothing in its content or presentation yet is popular in its plainness, maybe even because of its plainness.

I think Friends is a perfect example from the past. It was popular because of its attractive cast and non challenging humor. The show was on for a decade or so and offered you NOTHING nourishing

I don't mind suspending my perception of reality for a SitCom. They're just meant to make you laugh. All of the dramas (legal, hospital, crime / police) are packaged as "credible" but all of them are a nowhere near reality.

The one that used to just make me shake my head was "Alias". She's wasn't just a secret agent....oh no....she was a DOUBLE secret agent. She had the ability to just beat the living crap out of men twice are size and weight. GMAFB.

I have to also add According to Jim to the list. Solely for the face that Jim Belushi has zero talent and likeability at all. How in the hell does that guy have a career?

Another perfect example.

Oprah is the mother of insipid. Her popularity was based entirely in not challenging and it made her a billionaire.

There are people who weren't alive when it went on the air who binge it! What does it have to offer them?

An unrealistic look at the 90's?

Beverly Hills 90210 is another one that comes to mind. Just the fucking worst.

Nostalgia. Just like people our age who listen to The Beatles.

Young millenials are killing the nostalgia business.

Even back in the day, did anyone really like the Cosby Show? It was Father Knows Best in the 80s.

Say what you will about Alf and Small Wonder, but they are so awful that they are fun bad. I would say insipid is more about being bland/ boring.

While recovering from Knee surgery, I binged the first season on Amazon prime. Why??? Well....it was something mindless and I knew my wife would have no interest in watching it.

Fun bad lasted about 3 episodes....I cannot believe that show went beyond one season. It's HORRIBLE.

Before there was social media, women had to watch 90201 to be obsessed with young attractive celebrities.

All of the Nazis were buffoons but at one point each of them had been captured by Nazis?

Then inclusion of Ivan Dixon was perhaps the beginning of funny PC culture though. Like he'd have been there irl
