The thing is, we weren't a 4th starter away from a WS. Epstein thought Q would drop that era by .4-.6 by going to the NL( I did too) it didn't happen. The NL and AL are equals. It's not like it was 10 years ago. His ERA has gone up since coming here.

Quintana was an excellent white sox and a great person. I congratulate you on winning the trade.

The real beauty of the Quintana trade is that his low contract allowed the Cubs to go out and sign a top of the rotation starter to a huge, long term contract.

If Eloy reaches the level that most people think then the Sox will easily win the trade.....doesn't even matter what Cease does. If Q leads the Cubs to another WS then it would be a Cubs win.

No one will really know for a few more years to see how things play out.

IMU, you're making this way too difficult.

It doesn't matter who was being blocked or any other internal factors on the Cubs.

Eloy was their top offensive prospect. Cease was their top pitching prospect. You don't trade that for a #3 (or#4) but I'll give him being a 3.

You trade that for a stud. A difference maker. Which up to this point, Quintana has not been. And I'll say that I highly doubt he will develop into one. He is who he is.

Now if Quintana goes on to be a #1 top of the rotation guy, I will gladly admit I'm wrong.

If we are going to be prisoners of the moment, Cease has been awful in his last couple starts at AAA. Maybe another TJS soon.

Quintana was bordering on #1 with the Sox, was a young lefty with an incredibly team friendly contract and you were getting him at the beginning of what should have been his prime. Unfortunately, he had his best years with the Sox. If he were the same pitcher over his Sox career as he was with the Cubs, he would have been worth the price

Q is a 4th starter...at best. I wouldn't call him soft, but he's no ace. he's a serviceable starter that can eat innings and keep you in a game. He's a left handed Javier Vazquez.

How does Quintana get worse on a better team? His ERA has gone up. He can't handle the pressure of 40k fans and WS expectations. He's more comfortable playing in front of 11k fans on 70 win teams.
