I don't care what he's earning. That's not a concern to me. The money is spent. Just because hes a very expensive player doesn't mean he can't just be expensive on the bench. With Bote and Baez able to play a couple infield positions and the return of Russel, and Bryant going to be a corner outfielder once a week or more, I see no reason to start this turkey another single game.
Be a defensive replacement. Hes just too damn useless at bat to justify a starter spot given the guys who could use his ABs.

OPS

Heyward .770
Almora .685

It's more than barely.

Heyward is hitting .282/.378/.462 over the last month. As I've said, ignorant Cubs fans.

Last 30 days .236 .325 .368 not including today's crap performance.
Hes barely got a positive war and I'm pretty sure I saw a negative dwar last time I checked which was supposed to be his strong suit. After a very hot may and a couple good games in June his numbers are pretty bad and dont justify a starting spot on a team trying to win in a solid division.

As an ignorant cub fan I'm also interested in how he performs with RISP.

Ignorant Cub fans also are curious how he performs in late or close situations.

When you really analyze his splits it becomes very clear that if you get a first pitch strike on Heyward you've probably got him. If you go 2-0 on him hes pretty good. Hes not getting ahead in counts enough to really capitalize on this trend.

This year for Heyward has been an odd one. 2 unbelievably bad slumps where he looked helpless. Then 2 all-star caliber hot streaks where he looked in total control at the plate. Of his 8 year contract he's bound to have a decent stats year sooner or later. Maybe this year with the juiced ball. When it's all said and done he has a Cubs career 700 ops which sucks for a power position.

I agree.

Here's the fact of it. If he were a free agent this past off season, nobody would have signed him. Nobody. Which means the Cubs are starting a guy every day that doesn't even deserve to be in MLB. That's pretty amazing.

Like you said. The money is spent. It's a sunk cost. Put the best players on the field so you can win.

Don't give me he's a great defensive player. Fuck that. There are 300 guys in the minors that are great defensive players that can be equally as bad of an offensive player as Heyward.

That is his last 30 games. Not the past month.

Its considerably more insightful than posting a guys last month as evidence of him being some kind of renaissance player when we have three and a half years of data as a Cub to analyze in which at no point has he ever been better than a replacement level offensive player.
Three and a half years, nearly a hundred million dollars and you get a 1.5 oWaR.
Atlanta paid him 10 million for over 14 total WAR.

Those ignorant Cubs fans.

Like I said in the other thread. His fucking swing is horse shit. That choppy path to the baseball. How he can't fix that is amazing to me.

He's the opposite of the launch angle swing which has been popular for the last 4 years. He swings like he's trying to hit grounders. And when he does lift it, it's an accident.

Yeah, he sucks. What's the alternative?

Schwarber sucks
Almora middling @ best and weak arm
Zobrist- M.I.A.
Cargo- washed up

I'd be fine with K.B in left and Bote @ 3rd. Still need 2 other bodies.

I like Darkside's approach here. Ignorant Cub fans... I'm a member of the Local ICF 773. The local runs deep up in here. How are the locals faring in the 319, 847 and 708? Sure I'm missing a few. Apologies to all ICF members who feel slighted.

Fuck Heyward.

Never shoulda signed him in the first place.

Derailed Soler's and Almora's career.

In theory, the Cubs under the 8 year length of Heyward's contract, could have signed 3 relief pitchers each year to 7-9 million one year contracts with his wasted money.

Or...maybe you don't bench one of your most currently effective hitters. There aren't a lot of strong OF options on the Cubs. The contract isn't going anywhere... don't make additional dumb decisions just because an initial dumb decision was made.

Imagine how much more hated Heyward would be if the Cubs hadn't won in 2016. He's been given a big pass, thanks to being in the right place at the right time.

Same could be said for Theo and Joe.

Without that last win, and I think we can all agree some luck was involved, Joe doesn't make it the full five years of his contract and Theo is getting booed by at least half the fans.
