Yes, Darvish's stuff has been praised forever. His stuff doesn't mean shit. They guy can't even get through the 6th inning. He's just not very good.

Q is worse because he always matches who he's pitching against that day. I hate to resurrect the JORR run support conversation, but JORR has accurately called Q out for what he is.....mediocre. His ERA has gone up because he consistently pitches against lesser quality pitchers since joining the Cubs. He's not mentally weak...he's mentally weird.

Q is a 4th starter...at best. I wouldn't call him soft, but he's no ace. he's a serviceable starter that can eat innings and keep you in a game. He's a left handed Javier Vazquez.

Darvish isn't soft. He's just a bad pitcher. He's not even a good enough 5th starter.

Q > Darvish

How does Quintana get worse on a better team? His ERA has gone up. He can't handle the pressure of 40k fans and WS expectations. He's more comfortable playing in front of 11k fans on 70 win teams.

Blame the conga line of pitching coaches

wtf are we even discussing this shit for?

Q sucks for what they gave him up for.

The only way Theo wins is if Q wins them a WS. But considering he doesn't even start playoff games if they make it, that's a long shot.

Even if Eloy is a flash in the pan, Q's proven he's the same pitcher he was w/ the W Sox.

I thought that too, but he has an awful lot of posts in this thread. All of you know IMU better than I do. I don't know how to read this one. Assuming this was a legit argument from him, I see several possibilities:

1. Both Jimenez and Cease hit their potential- no contest White Sox;
2. One of them hits their potential the other is an average MLB player- Sox by a comfortable margin;
3. They're both average- White Sox in a squeaker;
4. One's average, the other is a flame out- mild victory for the Cubs; or
5. They're both flame outs- Cubs win.

The odds are excellent in the Chi Sox favor.

Sounds like Jorge Soler September 2014.

Strong, bold opinion. It'll be wrong but you won't look crazy.

Quintana matched the ERA leader pitch for pitch last night, while facing the best lineup in baseball. Pitched good enough to win, but has to settle for a no decision.

Sounds like he didn't pitch well enough to win then.

He usually does. :lol:

Amazing how a super pitcher like "The Great" Jose Quintana is so unlucky he goes 4-6 for probably the greatest and most powerful baseball team in history. Remember- a starter's W/L record is a team stat.

I'm just glad the Sox have "Lucky" Lucas Giolito!

ORLY? The Yankees (as of Friday) lead MLB in OPS, and Giolito shut them down and earned the W on Friday.

Or does OPS not apply here, and only apply when you are talking about "light hitting" Jose Abreu?

Lucas Giolito is a very good pitcher.

You needed my validation, and you have gotten it.

He isn't.

Not feelings, its fact. You do not trade one of the top two or three hitting prospects in all of MLB along with your best overall pitching prospect for a pitcher of Quintana's ilk. You do that for a pitcher of Verlander's ilk.

Maybe if your GM was better at evaluating pitching, he would have traded for ol' Justin :D
