Brad Stevens stock has taken a hit. Last year people were like "how many 1st round picks would you give up in a trade for Brad Stevens", don't hear that these days. Maybe Stevens' Gordon Hayward fetish blinded him to his team's obvious playing time / role issues this last season.
It's going to be a battle between North Carolina and Duke for who can force their coach to retire to hire him after next season.

It makes sense all the way around, but can Stevens do that to his guy?

Why? SLC is both a better team and a better city than Memphis.

Expected to see Rubio going the other way but he's a free agent. Crowder's a loss for Utah. Figure Memphis took back Korver with an eye to flipping him to a contender in need of shooting at the trade deadline, he's an expiring.

Memphis is a rough town once you get outside the Tourist Containment Zone, but you can say that about a lot of places. But all these players inhabit Up in the Air bubbles of samey luxury hotels/condos and Cheesecake Factories, so it can't really matter that much in the end.

I never want to spend another second in Salt Lake City. It may be the creepiest city I've ever had the misfortune to spend any time in. And that includes parts of deeply rural Alabama & Mississippi. And I'm sure he's hoping they'll buy him out. At least Memphis has BBQ and reasonable weather 9-10 months a year. SLC has what?

When it's frozen solid under 2' of packed snow 4-5 mos a year, I don't think that's quite the selling point you suggest.

What? Why the hell would they have given up those assets if they didn't really want him? A buyout makes zero sense.

Why would Detroit do that and continue a trend of bailing out the Bucks for absolutely no reason? There is no sports off season that is as fishy as the NBA. Just look at LeBitch getting the opportunity to re-work the trade he put together with New Orleans because he found out his crew did a shitty job of ironing out the details.

I think it's fine for both teams. The Pistons desperately need wing depth and defense and Leuer's contract is even less justifiable than Snell's.

I was surprised some Milwaukee fans I read were pretty negative about this. They don't seem to enthused about the money they're going to have to commit to Middleton, Brogdon, and Lopez.

Milwaukee desperate to free up cap space, with 3/5ths of their starting 5 + Mirotic in free agency this summer. Pistons dumped a 3rd string center in the last year of a bloated Summer 2016 contract. Snell at least can shoot from 3 and could be a plus defender, hasn't always. 3 and (some) D wings like Snell easy enough to trade.

With the Celtics imploding and Kawhi headed for the Western Conference and Butler potentially headed for the WC as well, makes sense for the Bucks pay up and run it back.

I'm seeing lots of Lakers fans playing the fake news card and claiming Woj, Shelburne, and the rest of the media are biased against them and being paid off by Steve Ballmer.

I saw all that too. How did I not know that Lakers fans were all crazier than a pet coon? How did I miss this?
