WTF is Stan thinking? I know we need defense, but this trade makes no sense whatsoever.

Only thing I can think of is they are not impressed with the free agent d-men. They have salary cap room, allowing them to take a chance on another d-man while opening up a forward spot for one of their overseas signings.

Yes.

Probably about 90-95% online reaction is "Bad trade for the Hawks".

Something tells me 2 things: 1. They are going Torcotte with the #3 pick, 2. They think they are going to compete next season.

I had a feeling they would cycle Kahun out for New Euro Free Agent Signing. But man, "well, not COMPLETELY useless" is not the scouting report I wanted to see on the return. I'm getting uncomfortably strong David Rundblad vibes.

I mean, shit - there have to be other defensemen available for $4M or less, that may actually be able to play, let alone giving up a young, promising forward who costs you $1M - what, was Stan afraid to lose him after the season and get nothing in return? Not to mention that the team finally had a little breathing room under the cap...God, I think this deal is (ex-GM) Mike Smith bad.

I was thinking about the hawks this week after the finals.

Couldn't the hawks have been like the blues where they came out of nowhere to win? Last to cup?

They need consistent goalie play and find a top 4 d-man.

I’d be intrigued with a Seabrook/Maata pairing. That’d be such a hilarious shitshow. Two skating bags for the opposition to figure 8 around.

Despicable that Penguins retained no salary.

Feels like this was supposed to be a trade for Artem Anisimov but someone clicked the wrong name on the spreadsheet.

Maybe packaging a Gustafsson with Artem to avoid retaining salary?

Stan definitely has some kind of master plan up his sleeve in regards to the D. He has a pile of D prospects knocking on the door and there already aren't enough seats at the table for a left handed shot. I think this is just the beginning of some big moves in the next week.

Erik Karlsson extended in San Jose. I'm glad the stupid idea of using all available cap space to sign him is now going by the wayside

Isn’t he an RFA? Can’t imagine his cost would go up much from that point but Maybe a touch.

Typo. He meant "get Hayden's crap off the team." He was a bust, folks!

Not Hawks related, but Ryan Hartman was traded again

I'm glad we didn't take Turcotte because all of the Chicago kids we drafted have been shit.
