Controversy in the KC media. Radio host Kevin Kietzman made some comments on his afternoon radio show about Andy Reid. They were taken as going after Andys son who died and other son who has had issues with the law.

Here is what Kietzman said

Quote:
“The thing is, they probably think they can fix him, but they thought they could fix him before and they failed. Andy Reid does not have a great record of fixing players. He doesn’t. Discipline is not his thing. It did not work out particularly well in his family life, and that needs to be added to this, as we’re talking about the Chiefs. He wasn’t real great at that either. He’s had a lot of things go bad on him, family and players.”

“He is not good at fixing people, he is not good at discipline. That is not his strength. His strength is designing football plays. To be honest, Andy Reid’s greatest strength is designing football offenses and plays. That’s his greatest strength. Players like him, sure, he’s a leader, I’m not saying he’s not a leader, his greatest strength is designing football plays. And that’s gotten him a long way, but that doesn’t mean he’s qualified to discipline players, or help them, or change them, or make them better.”

He has just been taken off his show for the time being...

Quote:
We are aware of the controversial comments made by Kevin Kietzman during yesterday’s broadcast of Between the Lines. We have decided to take the immediate step to take Kevin off the air until further notice as we review this matter.

We take Kevin’s comments and those of all on-air staff seriously. Kevin’s comments were clearly not to his or our standards. Please know that we will take necessary appropriate actions.

We sincerely apologize to Andy Reid and his family, the Kansas City Chiefs organization and our loyal listeners and share their concerns.

Ok Danny but none of those things refute the point KK was making .

Should you be fired from your radio job for "not being good at empathy"?

He's better at drawing up plays than managing people is what it amounts to. He should not have brought up his family, but their was no direct reference to his son. I don't think he should be fired.

He definitely should have made the point without referring to his family. But he was not going after the mans sons and it is just another example of the craziness of our culture right now.

this is nothing that should lead to the man losing his job, and I hope it does not come to that.

He shouldn't lose his job but it is almost certainly a reference to his son. What other family situation is there with Reid?

His logic is a bit flawed as well . You can be a great Dad and your kids can be fuck ups , can be a shitty Dad and your kid turns out great . Him missing a lot of time at home because of the nature of his job therefore the kids didn’t have him around much may be the more apt parallel

Agreed, but not worth a suspension or a firing if this is his first incident.

I don't think he should be fired either, but c'mon dude. He's obviously referring to his son.

He likely is, but I don't know enough about the Andy Reid and KK prior relationship to know 100 percent for certain. Give anyone 20-25 hours a week on the air, and they will say somethings they regret. Or be totally boring.

A reference to his sons and going after his sons are different things.

Again he should not have made the family statement, but he was not going after his sons or family.

His apology admits he was going after the bad things done by the sons.

It sure does.

So any reference to what he said, to the death of Reid's son, isn't illogical at all.

After further review, comments by the host did in fact cross the plane of decency.

The call on the field stands.

He wasn't referencing the accidental heroin overdose that killed his son as being a failure of Reid, but he was referencing the drug addiction and arrest of his sons as being a failure of Reid. There is clearly a very big difference between those two things.

In case it wasn't clear, I was being sarcastic. I agree.

His apology made it worse.

Of course Andy Reid is a failure as a father and that should be taken into consideration. At least he's good at pass plays.
