12th Street Rag out on Roosevelt in Berwyn would pretty much make you smoke when you hung out there.

That's kind of what I'm getting at. Rick is not going to take his wife and children into some seedy, shitty dive that you or I or JORR might frequent. You vote with your feet.

Rick, do you have any idea how many restaurants - small, mop-and-pops, not TGI Fridays - got screwed into spending thousands of dollars on a "smoke-eater," essentially a giant air filter system, in their smoking sections in order to be compliant with the code a year or two prior to the smoking ban?
I don't. I think that helps my point though that without government intervention that restaurants and bars would have done anything they could to still let smoking customers come and smoke in their establishments.

Why shouldn't it be voluntary? My place would be non smoking. I know that, because I know my clientele.

It should be voluntary.

Ran a nightclub 20 years ago. We had an expensive and very good, air filtration system.

You could sit near someone with a cigar and go home without a trace of it on your clothes.

O rly?

I’m stunned when I see anyone under the age of 40 smoking a cigarette.

Rick, one of your God-given rights as a capitalist should be the ability to read the room. And I will be the first to admit that a smoking ban has probably had a neutral-to-positive effect on a place like mine. And Tall Midget is right, it is a workplace health issue. But if I have access to a population who wants to smoke, and a workforce willing to absorb the risk, and there is a market for it, why wouldn't/shouldn't I?
I would say the same is true for a lot of the other business regulations that exist. When everyone is playing by the same rules you don't need to make a decision based on how much money you will lose to the guy next door who is willing to let people smoke. In theory, it would sort itself out, but in reality, every place pretty much let smokers in one way or another so they weren't cutting out a percentage of people who wouldn't come there.

I guess if every bar had that magical system then it wouldn't have been needed. Sadly, at the time of the ban, that wasn't true of any place I ever went to.

Still should be an option.

It's 78.7 miles to Lake Geneva from Wrigley Field. It would take you an hour and 37 minutes, if you left right fucking now.

If you leave in an hour, it will take you 2.5 hours. If you left at 4:30 on a Friday afternoon, it will take you 8 days.

I don't miss smoking outside or in bars. It's nice to not smell like an ashtray....ashtray, remember those?

So, it's funny, but at daycare, the kid made Father's Day gifts as part of art one day that week. #1 came home with hers the Friday before Father's Day, and I swear to god, I cannot for the life of me figure out what it is, but Kimberly and I are both convinced it's an ash tray.

I went to Barcelona earlier this month. They may not smoke in the restaurants, but god damn they smoke everywhere else. Trying to enjoy outdoor seating, and half the tables around us were just ripping cigs.

Girls who smoke: cute, gross, or hot in an abject way?

It's all e-Cigarettes now.

I find vaping to be repulsive. I avoid those toxic clouds like its chlorine gas. Cigarette smoke I don't care about.

Right, but when it is a cigarette.

I'm with you on the vaping being repulsive, Hatchetman. It looks so needy.

Like anything else girls do: cute when a cute chick does it, hot when she's hot...etc.

Also, if they're smoking that means they are prone to make poor life decisions and have lower self-esteem--I got a shot, y0.

Last couple gf's have been smokers. Neither casually reeked like an ashtray just hanging out; but close and sweaty that nicotine/ashtray smell activates.

Rural Illinois they vap and smoke. It’s something. Never made sense to me as a teen to start 30 years ago and I just don’t comprehend it when I see how many young kids are buying cigarettes at the local gas stations. Mostly it appears to be an inherited vice.

To not answer your question, I’d rather they smoke than have tattoos.

The fantasy is great. The reality not quite so.

It’s awful. When I smoked I was called hypocritical often, and rightly so, but I couldn’t stand being with a girl that smoked.

The Louisiana girls that dip were another breed too.
