Farmio has been out a lot lately. Any word why?

I assume Farmer must be pretty sick--hIs voice earlier this year was all messed up. Haven't read anything about it, though.

I would say the same for “OldSchoolScoreFan”.

WGN 720-AM isn’t saying much about whatever has sidelined Chicago White Sox announcer Ed Farmer. “He is just taking some time off to attend to some personal matters,” said Todd Manley, station manager and vice president of content at the Tribune Broadcasting news/talk station. “We look forward to his return to the broadcast booth very soon.” It’s not known whether his absence is related to the kidney disease for which Farmer, 69, received a kidney transplant in 1991. Darrin Jackson and Andy Masur are sharing play-by-play duties until Farmer returns.

I'll trade you Cackling Zach for Masur.

Masur calls a ground rule double a rule book double. How edgy....yet wrong.

I guess you could argue that a fair ball that bounces out of play is a double pursuant to baseball rules and not a park's particular ground rules (compare with a ground-rule double for the ball getting lost in the ivy at Wrigley) but it seems like a distinction without a difference to stand out.

I hope everything is more or less alright with Farmer, but it's time for some new blood in the radio booth. Mazur is a capable fill-in, but if Farmer is in fact done, they can do better for a permanent replacement.

If Farmer is done or is able to do a few home games a month, they should deposit a bucket of cash on Dave Wills' front door and ask him if he really wants to live in Montreal.

You know you see some minor league highlights once in a while and sometimes the guys are pretty good and exciting. why can't we hire one of those guys? this organization is so crappy.

Neither term is correct. Rule book states "automatic double". There are automatic doubles, ground rule doubles and and two base hit "doubles". All of these doubles are in the rule book.

Best wishes to Farmio. Hopefully, everything works out and he is healthy.

MANY great memories of Ed Farmer as a yoot.

All Star closer one year, IIRC.

 I misremembered... it was Bobby Thigpen who actually won the award. Farmio was in the running very close in the late 70's. My bad.

I remember Wills from his days doing pre and post on AM 1000. He seemed like a solid south side guy, and I think he would be a good addition. However, don't knock Montreal. It's a pretty cool town.

I like Farmio; sounded pretty weak/hoarse the past week before he disappeared. Forgot he's almost 70; just retire and become an ambassador. Probably better for his health.

It would also be better for those who listen to Sox games on the radio.
