Gruesome way to die.

Quote:
TORRANCE, Calif. -- A 21-year-old woman from Torrance was killed in a shark attack in the Bahamas, according to officials in that country.

Jordan Lindsey, 21, of Torrance, died after being attacked by sharks while snorkeling with her family, according to Paul Rolle, deputy commissioner for the Royal Bahamas Police Force.

There were three sharks involved in the attack, and they bit her in the arms, legs and buttocks, and severed her right arm, officials said.

Lindsey's mother was with her during the snorkeling expedition near Rose Island around 2 p.m. She said the attack happened so fast and no one yelled anything.

Lindsey's mother pulled her to the shore by herself. She was brought to a local hospital and pronounced dead there. She is expected to undergo an autopsy in Nassau.

"Jordan was 21 and such a great daughter and person. We already miss her terribly," Jordan's father, Michael Lindsey, said in a statement to ABC News:

Her younger sister, Madison Lindsey, has started a GoFundMe page to help the family with funeral costs and transporting her body back to California.

"Jordan Lindsey was a beloved daughter, sister, girlfriend, and friend," the GoFundMe page says. "On June 26, 2019 Jordan was tragically killed from a shark attack in the Bahamas."

"Jordan had the most beautiful, gentle soul and she will be missed deeply."

The young woman was also a student at Loyola Marymount University.

Officials with the Bahamas government said: "The Ministry of Tourism, on behalf of the Government and the people of The Bahamas expresses its condolences and deepest sympathies to the family and loved ones of the victim of Wednesday's shark attack off Rose Island, near New Providence."

The U.S. Embassy is working to bring her body back to California.

One of my nightmares...especially involving one of the kids.

I'm sure there are those who feel the Lord smited(smote?) her for being a lesbian.

Sad.

I've never understood the allure of snorkeling. Especially in known shark waters. At least with scuba you get a little better chance.

You dont need lessons to snorkel, so time is a benefit.

A better chance of what?

Are you going to beat a shark to death with the tank?

I figure that it'd be easier to breathe and fight if you had a knife or something.

But if sharks are in the water, I don't get the allure of any of it.

Especially since shark even tastes like crap.

I snorkeled one time and hated it. No desire to ever do that again.

That does suck for that family, what an awful way to go. Hard to imagine what the mom is going thru.

She got attacked by 3 sharks. That's a lot of knives.

I don't get the allure either.

But if I'm getting in the water, I'm just deluded enough to think that if I get the first one, the other two would go look for an easier target.

But in reality I'm in a shady spot with a large drink with plenty o' ice. F the rest of that noise.

For 3 sharks to converge on her and all attack, maybe she had an open cut. Or she bathed with baby-seal scented body wash before snorkeling. Sharks sometimes mistake surfers loafing on their boards off-shore for seals or other shark food. Even in those situations it's almost always just one befuddled shark who fucks off after taking an unappetizing bite and realizing their mistake.

Love snorkeling.

But for many years I did it wrong.

General rule is never go out too far alone.

I did that for many years.

Lucky I didnt perish. not at a hand of a shark, but just exhaustion or a rip tide.

I try to be more careful now. I go out at least once or twice a week but have my own spots where the coral is clear and I have some turtles to play with.

Anything to do w/ water is dangerous but also rewarding.

added : btw - stick w/ the tried and true snorkeling gear. Not the new ones that cover your whole face with the mask. Those will kill you and it's has killed many! For some, the CO2 builds up in the mask and people get dizzy and pass out in the middle of the ocean. AVOID THIS AT ALL COSTS! I can't believe they sell this to kids also.

I have feared the ocean ever since Jaws. It really shouldn't have had that kind of effect on me when I see the movie now but it was terrifying through the eyes of a child.

I am going to Florida next week so wish me luck

Having done a lot of deep sea fishing, I'm pretty good with staying out of the water. In the Bahamas, there are huge, aggressive bull sharks all over the place. We fileted a Mahi and tossed the carcass in the water by the dock. 15 feet of water...before the carcass hit the bottom, three huge bulls showed up out of nowhere. When I say huge, I mean 400-500lbs.

We snorkeled around sunken ship in Bimini and my head was on a swivel. Sharks like that could have swallowed my son in one bite.

My dad and I once started training to go scuba diving in the late seventies. The instructor's talk about the ability of sharks in even shallow water ended that.
