You know, I'm pretty libertarian in my views about stuff like this, but I'm just gonna take a wild guess that having a society of people walking around high half the time probably isn't gonna be a great thing. I guess we'll find out.

It works for this board.

Hopefully it is weed and not K2 or bath salts or all these other man made poisons.

This policy is gonna be murder on the public school system. As a person that has dealt directly with this particular issue on the administrative side for more than a decade there is no way that it won't be detrimental.

They typically group all of the drugs together under one specific code violation.

Weed is worse from a climate standpoint because of the stench that emanates. Nothing worse than having that stuff fire up an entire hallway. Classroom too. Now they are essentially going to be sanctioning it. Its bound to be a disaster.

Treating it the same way as alcohol seems OK to me. 3 days suspension sounds a little light though.

States with legalized weed enjoy fewer school shootings post legalization.

They are eventually moving towards not having kids be punished for it at all. Not usually a SJW detractor but the movement to make this as well as other infractions less punitive is a product of their overreach and advocacy.

Great. Now it's easier to get weed than an education in CPS.

The top 5 schools in the state are currently found in CPS. 7 of the top 10 are found in CPS.

As is the norm around here there will at the very least be a consensus of opinion on at least one front.

I'd rather have kids smoking weed than boozing or K2 or bathsalths, whippets etc.

From an academic environment standpoint it's terrible. The smell of it inside of the classroom or hallway is a distraction for other kids and teachers. Not to mention that the smell lingers long after the effected child has departed.

It's to even out the suspension/expulsion numbers by race. Oak Park is doing the same type of thing. "Solves" the problem.

Because the state is allowing the roosters to run the henhouse. About 5 years ago a Group of Students from Roosevelt High School lobbied the state for the purpose of decreasing the amount of suspensions and disciplinary actions being administered against students (particularly students of color). A law (SB100) was passed as a result. This law drastically altered the way discipline could be administered in Public Schools.

To be fair and honest the law is simply a microcosm of the whole social justice/ restorative justice movement that's been occurring over the past 15-20 years. As a result of this movement they decided that policies such as "zero tolerance" were too punitive. They also concluded that these policies adversely effected children of color.

The culmination of this movement has been a replacement of zero tolerance with policies that aren't really punitive at all. The end goal is to have a system where children will only be punished for things deemed most egregious. By that I mean things that will get them sent to jail.

The ability to discipline students has effectively been removed from the schools and placed in the hands of children and the bureaucrats themselves.

Restorative justice is just increasing the rate in which younger teachers leave.

Agreed, the pendulum has swung way too far the other way.. there's no accountability anymore.

You are allowed to teach children?

Did you already forget Seacrest saying the same thing about condoms, and you freaking out?
