Has Moncada figured things out or what? Both sides of the plate, he is really squaring up on the ball and driving it. I remember last year when all of the cynics were calling him a bust and some were telling us that he ought to just hit left handed. I remember arguing with someone about how I thought that his mechanics were solid and that he just needed to see more pitches and make his own adjustments and I turned out to be right this time.

Also, I don't recall many 3rd basemen with better and more accurate arms than he does. Man, does he have a strong arm!!! Those are rockets he throws to first and he doesn't appear to be straining to do it. He throws from his ear on a line and that takes a lot of arm strength to do I'd love to see him measured with a gun to see how fast it is. My guess is around 92 or so.

He definitely appears way more comfortable at 3B. Not sure why teams were trying to put him at 2B.

I guess they figured that they had a guy in the bigs who would be good at 3b. When they found out they didn't, they did the right thing and moved him. Sometimes kids pretty much get stuck in the minors when the bigs have a guy that plays their preferred position. I kind of think that this is what is holding Mendrick back in 3A who I think can be a fine major league infielder and a good stick to boot. All these guys can do is to continue to bust their asses and hope that the guy above him fails, get injured, or gets traded. Or that they get moved to another organization that has a spot for them.

THis is also why guys like Garcia have a terrific chance at playing in the majors in that he can play multiple positions and hit decently as well. This guy can fit with just about any major league club that is out there.
