Far be it for me to miss taking shots at Rush and Pink Floyd, but the only correct answer for this is 'American Pie'

You suck, Don McClean.

American Pie is a solid #1.

I'll add to the list...
I Gotta Feeling - The Black Eyed Peas

"Good Riddance," by Green Day.

Not necessarily a bad song, but one that never needed to be played to the extent that it was.

This is a good one. As a standalone song, very overrated.

I like the song. It was important. The video was cool. But it's really just a cocked up version of "More Than A Feeling".

I feel like you could put the entire Chili Peppers catalog on this list. Especially this, and Scar Tissue.

Overplayed an overrated are two different things. That Green Day song and Smells Like Teen Spirit are both wildly overplayed. I don't think they were necessarily overrated, they're pretty decent songs on their own they just got played out.

I get the distinction, but "Smells Like Teen Spirit," through no fault of it's own, is commonly lauded as some seismic shift in pop culture and rock music, a Very Important Rock Moment. It ain't no "Anarchy in the U.K."

Which is ironic because Higher Ground is the best remake of any song .

Well it pretty much launched the grunge era didn’t it ?

If they called it a day after "Blood Sugar Sex Magic," they would be remembered as a great band. Everything since then sounds the same to me.

But it did mark a change in what was being played and what was popular. It would be like if some heavy rock band suddenly shoved Ariana Grande and Ed Sheeran to the side.

All that says is that Flea and Anthony Kedis are mediocre songwriters.

No. It launched it in Schaumburg, maybe.

That would be delightful...especially if it was off the side of a very tall building.

It's an overrated song. Play it for aliens. Take the context out of it.

It is more a case of having next to zero knowledge or recognition of bands/songs. I play Spotify and Pandora all the time.

I would never go to a concert. Just not a big fan of anything in particular.
