Bulls are incapable of drafting a star player. There best chance to get one is to trade for one who has a contract most teams don't want.

Trading for guys with terrible contracts is a terrible idea. The worst thing that they could do is settle for someone else's junk. Thats what led to the Otto trade

Brooklyn didn't mind grabbing 3 terrible contracts.

I'm a Westbrook fan. He's tough, efficient, passionate. But hard pass on acquiring him. He will not age well.

Kyrie Irving isn't a terrible contract and neither is Jordan. The only one that may be might be Durant.

Westbrook is a different case all together. If he is that great then he should at least be able to get out of the first round of the playoffs. Particularly when his is considered to be the more talented team going in.

The 2nd part of this also relates to playoffs. Last we saw of Westbrook he was getting destroyed by Damian Lillard. I know there are guys that pooh pooh that sort of thing but it matters. Particularly in the playoffs. If you are that guy then you have to be able to hold your own. Westbrook hasn't in the past 2 playoffs he has been involved in.

Agreed that Westbrook is a 31 yr old many miled PG. Hard pass. As far as Brooklyn, time will be the truth teller. IMO, they have a 2 year window and then it's a shitshow. So good luck to them.

No chance. He’d be the same guy.

Yeah that's gonna be brutal most likely. I understand why they felt they had to do it but when Rudy Gay averaging 14 and 7 is the closest thing in NBA history to a successful recovery from an Achilles that is way too risky for my taste.

Don't get me wrong. Durant is a great player and I wish him a full and solid recovery. But....

But it’s tough to bet on something that’s literally never happened in the history of the league before.

Especially if you compare it to the lowball contracts that Boogie has signed after having the exact same injury. He is 2 years younger than Durant (though quite a bit heavier and a lesser player) yet he has to show and prove that he can return whereas there appears to be near certainty regarding Durant.

To Zeph's point...
Wilkins returned the following season and averaged 29.9 points to go along with 6.8 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game. He went on to make two more All-Star teams and two more All-NBA Teams - the All-NBA Second Team in 1992-93 and the All-NBA Third Team in 1993-94.

To FF's point...that is really the only good example.

Kyrie's contract has some strange incentives in them. No way he maximizes all of them. Maybe half.

He actually talks to the press a little too much for my taste. Shut the hell and hoop.

For all the talk of Daryl Morey being some genius analytics guru, he strikes me as someone putting little more thought into his moves than a fan playing with the ESPN trade machine and this trade is the latest example.
