Agreed, Silvy is the best for sure.

Heyward is always a great interview. Giolito is as well. Rizzo on the other hand, zzzzzzzzzzz

Before Tuesday, the previous 3 games Heyward was 8 for 12. Then, Tuesday he's not starting. He's not a catcher, he's a right fielder. Why does he need lots of days off in the midst of hot streaks and actually earning his 21 million, for at least spurts of a couple of weeks?

Maddon isn't flexible with his lineups that he writes out days in advance, before series even start. Frustrating.

.321/.360/.494 in June
.311/.355/.505 in his last 30 games.

At this point, as much as I still look at his signing as a mistake, I consider Heyward to be one of their 3 best outfielders. I would start Heyward in right, Almora in CF and Schwarber in LF pretty much every game. If Zobrist were playing (I assume he will return in August for a minor league tune-up before returning around Sept. 1st) I might look at things a bit differently, but he is not currently a part of this. Cargo is a failed experiment. He can't hit enough anymore and should be waived. As much as Bryant can track down fly balls pretty well, he has a surprisingly bad arm in the outfield. teams have caught onto this and are more than willing to test his arm. He belongs at 3B. Heyward will never be the kind of hitter that he should be, to be making the huge money he gets. But he is better than he was in 2016 and 2017. But Joe needs to stop playing him in CF. He is still a good RF, but a below average CF.

So do you still want Hayward to opt out of his contract to take tens of millions less from some other team?

He'll have a massive slump soon. His average will go down to .240. He'll heat it up in spurts. He'll end up at .250 with 60 rbi .

Heyward is Jacques Jones with bubblegum. A lot of weak singles to give the appearance of a guy doing his job,but not really driving the ball. That is how I thought of him but this season he does have more pop in his bat.

I admit it. Heyward started contributing pretty much right when I started this thread. Hes been pretty solid.

You have the IMU touch.

Can you start one for Schwarber?

He's been barreling the ball up and smashing it the last 5 or so weeks. Easily the best he's looked in a Cubs uni.

He was already hitting at the time. Darkside probably just reacted poorly to an 0 for 4 or something.

He’s finally doing what he was paid to do. It’s nice to see because he seems like a great guy, and the Cubs need his production.

He's cost the team many wins with his inept hitting during his time with the Cubs. He needs two solid full seasons of production to erase the mayhem his bad contract has inflicted on the franchise. 2018 1st half .285 ba 41 rbi, 2nd half .247 ba , 16 rbi

He needs to bat .280 and hit 30 hr’s per year the rest of that contract to make it worthwhile. His contract needs to be considered in terms of opportunity costs, or that what could have been done with the money instead of Heyward.

And if we skip the cliches and look directly at Heyward's metrics, we can see that he has career bests in Exit Velocity, Launch Angle, Barreled Balls and second in Hard Hit% (to last season, just a hair off). He has adjusted his approach and has started attacking balls earlier in the count. The results are simply results. But some of us saw what was about to come due to the analytics others choose to ignore. Maybe he tails off. Maybe he crashes hard. But the numbers don't suggest that.

Can't do anything about past performance. I'm not going to pretend current performance is worse simply because of a history.

Overall, he seems to have figured it out. Seems like he was pretty stubborn/afraid to make the necessary adjustments but he finally did.

Dwelling on his previous suckage is stupid. He's earning his paychecks now. If he contributes to another WS appearance and possible win, it's all good.

The same will apply to Darvish if stays on the same path he's on now.

Where his past performance is relevant is that is indicative of his longer term reversion to mean output. Now if he has truly figured it, like consistently going the other way, then I am 100% with you both. And as a massive Cubs fan, I want nothing more than to cheer loudly for his at bats and success.

How much is the juiced ball ading Heyward's metrics and conventional stats? Also, they wouldn't have traded Eloy without Heyward's signing clogging up a outfield spot. Let's not forget Heyward is hitting .100 postseason with the Cubs with "1" rbi. I'm way off on being in on this guy.

Nobody is blindly all-in on Heyward. He has to produce at the plate and stay consistently great in the outfield. Simple as that. His metrics over the Cubs years have not been in line with his career. Looks like Tarzan hits like Jane has been his MO for years. I like what I've seen this season. I hope he keeps it up...We're stuck with him either way.

But by all means keep being a whiny little bitch and dwelling on things you can't change.

Absolutely. His contact is still one that I consider a huge mistake. He had a hot streak earlier this season, followed by a very cold month. I don't expect his current hot streak to last for real long. But it's nice to see hot streaks mixed into his season. He has had a good season (for him) do far, but still not worthy of the contract.
