Dosen't matter. Dick move at any juncture.

Nope. You and your dog would have killed a child to get Sammy's 62nd. Who you crappin'?

Wrong again schmuckko. Never a Sosa fan and my dog does not like grease. Bye small fry.

Then you and your dog are dopes who want to hand 50 grand to some snotty kid.

Stop fetishizing children. They're just younger incarnations of assholes like you.

Right, much better to fetishize a baseball.

He didn't do anything wrong, but he also didn't do anything right. The right thing would have been to give it to a nearby kid. Of course, with multiple kids in proximity, which kid gets it? I guess you let them fight over it. Kids are always fighting over dumb stuff.

Why should he give it to a nearby kid? Why don't you give your paycheck to a nearby kid?

I never really thought Bartman did anything wrong. The ball was in the stands. You like to think as a fan that you would give your own player the room to try to make the play in that situation, but when it's happening that quick your first instinct is to put your hands up. It's not like Bartman was the only one doing it. He was just the guy who wore it.

the worst thing about this I can see is that I bet Mai Tai Guy is still telling people he caught the ball.

When I was about 10 I was hoping to get a BP ball from the outfield. one of the players tossed it up to me and right before it lands in my mitt, some dude grabbed it. Then he put it in my glove. I would say he made the "right choice" but aside from someone coming over to you at the rail or your hospital bed and handing a ball to you, it is a free for all.

If I caught a ball (not a milestone. one of them, I might consider money. Nah, id give it to the guy for some merch), id fulfill a proper amount of time for enjoyment/hand pain recovery, then likely give to a kid.

-Never celebrate a ball you picked up off the ground. That's not a catch.

-A handshake is better than an autograph.

Okay, dude. I'm gonna say you've never caught a home run ball and I doubt you've ever caught a foul ball. Maybe you go out for batting practice with a glove and take balls away from kids.

I go to between 25 and 40 games every year and I've never caught a foul ball. If I did, I would give it to a kid. But a homer? That's different. Kyle Schwarber is going to hit maybe around 200 in his career and that's one of them and a walk-off to boot. Why should anyone "let a kid have it" if he doesn't want to?

Here's a real bleeding heart liberal. But he kept a fucking foul ball:

I think if the player is tossing it directly to a kid (or anyone really) and you step in front and grab it, you're a piece of shit. That obviously isn't what happened here.

SuperNintendoHjalmarsson wrote:

See, I wouldn't. If it was a ball like McGwire's worth god knows what, how am I going to give it to McGwire for a bat and a few tickets? I can't. Because like the players always like to remind us, it's business. If it means that much to him he has to write the check or the ball is going to auction.

This isn't 1968 where the player might live on your block and maybe make a few bucks more than your dad. The players make more in an at-bat than most people make in a year, they're mercenary, and they have to live with the "consequences" of that. I'd say it's a pretty good trade off for them. But they can't really expect the fans to love them the way they loved a guy who was actually one of them but just hit better. Fuck you, pay me.

Mike Pantazis set the standard for this back in 1995. Do you think he gave the extra point ball to some kid in Soldier Field? No, he kept it for himself like he should have. If it was in pregame practice kicking and he caught a ball, I'm sure he would have given it to a kid, but when it scores points/runs (let alone game winning points/runs) adults are allowed to keep it.

A big ticket ball, I get.

But here really, guy needs to get a life. It's a $5-6 ball that means nothing to anyone. Including the hitter.

Ironically, or perhaps not, that maniac used to sit with us in the right field bleachers at Wrigley. Sullivan guy. His accent is almost as awesome as mine.

Do you hand out fives to kids in the bleachers? There's no imperative for him not to grab that ball. If you're a fan of the Cubs and baseball having Kyle Schwarber home run ball no. 93 is a lot more important than a foul ball or something caught in batting practice. If the kid can get it first, more power to him too.

I don't think you can now, can you? They let that guy have it probably because the whole thing was so weird. It was better than what was happening on the field.
