Back then you couldn't keep balls in the stands.

No, the rule was that you could keep it, but you were immediately ejected from the game -- so you had a decision to make. I'm pretty sure you can just keep them now.

Do you hand out fives to kids in the bleachers? There's no imperative for him not to grab that ball. If you're a fan of the Cubs and baseball having Kyle Schwarber home run ball no. 93 is a lot more important than a foul ball or something caught in batting practice. If the kid can get it first, more power to him too.

As a former coach/parent, I kinda did.

And I've never seen one of the kids who made it to college or the pros give a damn about balls, unless it was their first.

Ironically, or perhaps not, that maniac used to sit with us in the right field bleachers at Wrigley. Sullivan guy. His accent is almost as awesome as mine.

He coached my kid in football...until he was not invited back to coach football.

He married a woman who was his equal. She looks like Bono. The two of them commiserating on the sideline when he isn't coaching is something to behold.

Mai Tai Guy used to be a regular at Brgrbelly in the early days, so much so that he shows up in both our "Chicago's Best" and "Check,Please!" videos. He lives in the neighborhood. I think he was sweet on a woman who worked there. When she left, he didn't come around as much. Last time I talked to him he said he spends most of his time and all his money at Wrigley.

There is something comforting about being able to be a baseball fan that no other sport will give you. It can become a culture. I'm sure it was even better back when the Cubs played nothing but day games. You could waste away half the year and still feel like you were doing something while building up friendships.

I don't think he drives, either, and Portage Park is not exactly a high density area teeming with walkable businesses, etc. People who don't drive at all are weird.

heres how i see it. and its probably unpopular. typically chances are if you are a kid who's sitting close enough to be on the receiving end of a ball, you probably get whatever you want anyway, so guess what, if its takes some sweaty large adult to show you that you don't always get what you want in life, then so be it.

and we are talking about a schwarber walk off HR ball, not a foul ball, end of inning ball, or bp hr. by my estimation his first. Go blow yourself kid.

these cakeeaters will have a lifetime of things handed to them on a platter.

now these kids are sitting in the bleachers obviously not like super high end seats so its a little different in my mind but like i said we are talking about a walk off schwarber hr. its fair game in my opinion situationally.

Because! Because, as the leader...if I die...then all hope is lost! Who would lead? The clown? Instead of castigating me, you should all be thanking me. What kind of a topsy-turvy world do we live in, where heroes are cast as villains? Brave men as cowards?

I don't think anybody over 18 should be allowed in the park with a mit.. you look ridiculous, what is anybody over the age of 18 going to do with a ball? ..unless it's a milestone that can be sold back to the player. The guy is a nerd, he's got zero self awareness and I hope Spaulding kills him with her car on his next bike ride.

You'd be surprised what people will pay for a major league ball that someone has jizzed on.
