Melin Jones never knew an innocent cake mix-up would take the internet by storm — but here we are and we can't stop laughing.

The Missouri mom picked up a pre-made cake on display at the her local Walmart, Jones told USA TODAY. She asked the worker behind the counter for what she thought was "pretty simple request:" Write "Happy Birthday Lizard" on top.

What ensued was a big miscommunication, shock and then hilarity.

Jones was getting the cake to celebrate the second birthday of her daughter Elizabeth — who she's lovingly called "Lizard" since she was pregnant.

"She handed it back and I didn't check it," the 27-year-old mom shared. "I didn't think to check it. We were in a hurry."

"It’s still pretty crazy to me," she said. "Sometimes when funny things happen, you wonder if its funny to anyone else, but apparently it is funny to a lot of other people, which blows my mind."

For the record, Jones went back to the Walmart and bought her daughter a new cake, this time asking for "Happy Birthday Elizabeth."

This year, when Elizabeth turns 3 in September, mom said she plans to check the cake before leaving the store. "The pressure is on this year," she joked.

Edit to add and I can’t believe I actually have to say this but my child can not read and we didn’t tell her what it said EVEN if we did tell her that the cake said loser she doesn’t know what a loser is . So chill. Laugh , it’s funny .
