Hes also a clutch hitter. Lotta cubs struggle with men in, he dont. He's a butcher in the field tho.

who do they have to give up to get someone like Castellanos? Almora? I don't think Schwarber is going anywhere.

the answer on who you will have to give up on almost any trade is going to be Happ, but they have been showcasing him in non challenging AAA for that reason

Isn't this the time of year that Cub fans propose to send they garbage for Hall of Fame sure shots?

Just checked, $21 mil per year through 2022 plus a $10 mil buyout in 2023. Probably means they won’t get a ton for him, but the buying team is taking on a huge payroll commitment. He is 33 already.

Pass on Blackmon.

Russell and Zagunis for Castellanos. Then go get Leury Garcia from the White Sox to be the 5th OF and the emergency SS - if Baez goes on the IL this team is fucked anyway - and DFA Descalso.

Besides salary, why pass on Blackmon?

That's like asking "besides the lack of an arm, why didn't Jim Abbott play the outfield?"

He has a skill set that when it declines it is going to go quickly. If he was a pending FA, that's one thing, but doesn't he have 1-2 more years after this?

None. You're trying to win the WS this year and next year. His possible decline shouldn't matter.

Charlie Blackmon is one of the top hitting OF in baseball. Wrigley Field has a smallish outfield (specifically one of the smallest CF's if you decide to play him there) so his defensive issues won't be as glaring as Coors. And the prospect cost wouldn't be excessive since you'd be taking salary on that a lot of teams wouldn't.

He's also your immediate leadoff hitter.

It would be nice to have the same name consistently at the top of the order.

Don't the Cub pretty much have to trade Russell now? They aren't going to arbitration with him this off season and now they aren't playing him in MLB. Could the market really be that bad for him that someone won't even give them a A lottery ticket?

This is a good D SS with lots of playoff experience and occasional pop.

He sucks.
From what I've heard on sports radio lately, he pretty much does suck. And he had a couple of mental lapses in the field recently.

Unless a contender's 2B or SS gets hurt soon, he isn't likely to get traded and is likely to be non-tendered by the Cub this offseason.

I don't follow baseball as close as some of you but it's insane to me anyone would not want Blackmon just because he's making a lot of money the next couple years. He seems to be more than earning that money currently.

He is no longer a CF, he has been playing RF. In Chicago, is he going to go back to CF?

He has three more years after this. Unless the Rockies are willing to pay most of the last two years, that's a lot of risk to take on just to lose in the NLCS to the Dodgers.

The speculation is that if Castellano was acquired, Heyward would move to CF. I assume the same would happen if it was Blackmon.

I actually do not think GD is trolling. Offer up Russell to a non contender for a bullpen arm that is old + impending FA. Russell needs a change of scenery for a lot of different reasons. He isn’t going to ever achieve his prospect potential be he has the tools to be a quality regular SS at the MLB level.

Hard to believe that 3 years ago this guy was the 4th most valuable position player on a 100 win WS champ team.
