Enforcing gun laws in Chicago would not stop the problem. The gangs go to Indiana and out of state gun shows to purchase the fire arms for their crew. Would have to be a nation wide gun laws to have any kind of effect.

I agree with hammering the people caught buying the guns and bringing them into the state. If they can crack down on people buying fireworks and bringing them back to IL, then they can start arresting the gangs bringing guns into IL.

You probably should. Any time there is a "get tough on" law, it finds a way to disproportionately impact the lives of black and brown communities. Look no further than our "War on Drugs".

Politicians with the help of the media created the narrative that black and brown communities used and sold drugs at rates higher than everyone else and the "middle class" and priviledged of all communities agreed that there should be a "crackdown"

Black and brown families were being hit hard by the loss of manufacturing jobs and the "War on Drugs" just about finished most of these communities. Our justice system even shredded the 4th amendment and looked the other way when crooked cops were planting drugs on primarily black and brown people. Why? Because big business and local governments were making a shit load of money for the right to disproportionately imprison black and brown people for the same "crimes" that whites were committing AT THE SAME FUCKING RATE.

Lollapalooza is an annual music festival that brings people from all over the country to Chicago. There is a shitload of underaged drinking, drug use, drugs sold, public intoxication, public urination, nudity, overdoses, a death or 2, robberies and daily forced entry into the event by dozens of young people. People bury drugs so they can use and sale them when they enter the event. In fact, the police used dogs this year to try to combat this issue.

The media doesn't make this a big issue. Eddie Johnson doesn't hold press conferences for any of the "problems" at this music festival. Very few arrests are made. There aren't loud questions being asked about the parents, the way the young girls dress and there is no plan to cancel the event. They rightly view it as kids being kids. That same level of grace wouldn't be extended if black and brown communities were doing the same.

The "get tough" crowd eventually change their tune decades later when they see the damage that has been done or it comes knocking at their front door. It's too late to reverse the damage by then. It's easy to yell "I don't care" about the results when there is very little chance that it could have a negative impact on your family or community.

I know. Negative press is bad for business. Economics always play a major role. About 40 years ago drugs were a problem and now the government is selling them. If the War on Drugs crackdown was equitable it would have been shutdown in less than a year.
