I am not comfortable with this Phelps guy. He was pretty shaky the other day.

What a fun game! I watched all the way through....Had to sweat the fly ball out because I had $150.00 on the Cubs ML / Over 10.5 tonight.....

Thought that ball was gone.....

This is going to be a fun series with the A's.

I turned it off when they brought him in. If they won, great. If they lost, I didn't want to subject myself to it.

I just hope Kintzler is okay. With the bullpen already short of quality options due to injuries, they can ill afford to lose another arm.

KB needs a couple days off, he looks awful at the plate for a couple weeks now. Sishek needs a breather as well. Cards lost again, lead is growing quickly.

Boost his trade value for the off season, Caratini will need a couple days off and Davis is a bum.

Schwarber is not a catcher, and never was a viable one. The only way he ever catches in a game again is due to injury, or like a 15+ inning marathon. smh.

Schwarber was a lousy catcher before his knee injury. I don't believe we will ever see him catch in anything but an emergency situation. I heard Kap opine that he thinks that Maddon should use Chatwood in a high leverage situation if one presents itself tonight. I would go a bit further and say that I would like to see him take over after the 6th and pitch the final 3 innings and give the rest of the bullpen a night off. One of Maddon's biggest mistakes in my opinion, is not getting more from Chatwood after he has shown he can be trusted this season.

Chatwood has been best this season when used as a reliever with zero or one days of rest between appearances. Whenever he has appeared as a reliever after a long break, he has been bad.

I'd use him consistently as a 6th or 7th, single inning guy for a week or two and see how he does. No spot starts, no 9 out appearances.

I think that if Schwarber had not hurt his knee, the plan would have been to use him as a Lloyd McClendon type of 3rd catcher in addition to playing the outfield. Start 6-7 getaway day Sunday games a year, a couple of double switches a month when they're losing, and the ability to let Maddon use his backup catcher as a PH in a playoff setting and not worry about injury to the primary catcher. So definitely less than 100 innings a year, but probably in the 75 inning range.

But once he hurt his knee, that just wasn't going to work. I'm sure that he is the emergency catcher, but I doubt he gets any meaningful work in practice during the season.

Joe's got a depleted bullpen he won't be able to to be Mr Matchup with. Or, will he? He always says the data predetermines moves well in advance. He'll be chomping at the bit, to pull the starters early, but the pen is loaded with more bums than usual to do his 6-7 pitchers a game thing.

I thought Almora was supposed to be a really good outfielder?
