2 seconds.... then a short honk...usually people put their phones down and start moving.... i cant recall recently having to do a second honk.

a short honk shouldnt offend anyone... as long when they look up in their mirror you (the honker) arent flailing your fists dropping f bombs.

There's different levels of honking. If someone is taking too long to go at a green light I'll give them a tiny honk, but I'll do it pretty quickly. A couple seconds max. Just a little nudge to get them going.


That's different than the long drawn out honk reserved for people who do something offensive to me on the road.


And that's different from the quick hard honk which is used when you are concerned that another driver doesn't see you, just a kind of heads up dude I'm right here don't come into my lane.

as long as the people in the car in front of you aren't cranking music and the vehicles are maintaining a consistent separation, you would hear the horn (with slightly less volume) the same as you would if both cars were stopped.

the only way you wouldn't hear the horn is if one car is traveling at the speed of sound and honks the horn while passing a stationary vehicle.

car horns and lawnmowers are about the same...100 decibels. are you telling me you can't hear a lawnmower while driving a car 20' away from one?

I've been driving a long time. I must be the best driver in the world cause I've never once heard a horn from a car behind me while driving on a highway.



I guess you people have never heard of flashing your lights???? Or am I the only person who knows to do that on the highway?

I ignored the lawnmower example because it's not relevant. I don't recall ever driving by a lawnmower at 60 mph. I also have no experience with a lawnmower driving behind me while I am on the highway.
