I'd say yeah. Pick up the option at worst and sign him to an extension.
Hes been a pretty damn serviceable 3rd 4th and I'd be fine with an extension myself.

They have to.

No money to sign a Cole or Keuchel and I don't think there's anyone in the minors to take his place.

Q would be white Sox number two starter if he became available. Pick up the option.

The Sox have won as many pennants with Q as the Cubs have.

It looks like we sign him next year on a 1 year 10.5 million option or a 1 million buyout. Hes worth the 10.5 but I'd let him walk after the season.

Picking up the option is a no brainer. They have to. Signing him to an extension is another story....all depends on what the money is.

Signing him to an extension is absurd.. He's gonna want 5- 100.

He's a better pitcher than the guppy and he signed for that 5 years ago.

With SF( after turning down Epsteins dumb ass offer of 90)

How many wins does Kopech have this year?

Yes, they will pick up the option. But if he doesn't make the playoff roster and pitch well in the playoffs, no extension. He is no better than a 4th starter. He has stretches where he is quite good and then El Sucko Mucho for a stretch. Don't really feel he can be counted on.

I'm sorry you can't handle facts about your precious Cubs.

 $20 million a year for Quintana. Him not making the playoff roster?! How fucking stupid are you people?

of course you pick up his option

I think he wants to stay in Chicago and is the kind of guy who will actually sign for less. If he is great, you try for a reasonable new contract starting in 2021. I don't think he is going to break the bank at age 32.

There is value in a guy who takes the ball 32 times a year and throws 175-200 innings.

He will take less to stay in Chicago. He was happy pitching for the Sox as well.

Sox won't need him though as they develop all star pitchers

10 in 9 years. Six different players. Only one of those guys was an all star before he arrived in Chicago. Two are guys who would never be considered on all star lists before they arrived here.

Money won't be an issue next season, based on money coming off the books and their own additional revenue projections from Marquee.

Anyway, yes, pick up Q's option or negotiate a 3 year extension.

As long as Contrears, Baez, Bryant, maybe Rizzo (and others I've probably forgotten) have to be re-signed at some point, money will be an issue.

Always smart to evaluate players based on how they would fit on one of the worst teams in baseball.

Contreras isn't up for a contract until Heyward and Yu are on their last years. Lester would already be gone at that point. Baez and Bryant are a year earlier. They may not choose to pay Bryant. Rizzo won't be an upper echelon contract.

$56M is coming off the books after this season. Not including Castellanos. $42M additional comes off after 2020.

Hamels is the only major contributor in all of these names, unless you include Zobrist as well. $100M in open money over the next two years, not counting additional revenue.

Agreed. Significant and upper echelon are annually $10M or so apart.
