Maddon is gone at the end of this season. He makes far more money than most managers and there have been lots of his decisions that are easy to question, if not criticize. Ross or Girardi seem like likely choices to succeed him. Joe will be able to find work elsewhere, but likely at a much lower salary, as teams are just not paying managers as they did 4-5 years ago.

 Girardi is not likely going to be a cheap option.

Ricky is a scrub. Only a poorly run/cheap organization would keep Ricky over a manager like Joe Maddon and call it loyalty.

It's not about the Cub ethics, which are questionable most of the time. It is about Joe's ethics.

Lots of good young prospects all over MLB this year. Too bad none are from the Sox.

On Mully & Haugh this morning, John Heyman said the next highest paid manager is at $4M. Dirty Ricketts trying to cut more costs by whispering behind Maddon's back. Real nasty business ethics

He could have and should have said that he would not be interviewing for a job that someone already held. Fire Ricky and get back to me.

I’m sure Jerry will do Ricky the courtesy of firing him before he hires Maddon next year .

Why is Joe such a cuck for the Cubs? They publicly embarrassed him by not extending him. It seems pretty obvious that the Cubs have already ended the relationship in their minds.

I think he really likes being in the big city and the spotlight. If he goes, he won't get another big market job (at least next year). Boston, NY, LA all have their guys in place. I could see Philly hiring him.

For sure. Coming from penny pinching Tampa the Cubs provide a lot of resources/perks. Plus he just opened a restaurant in Wrigleyville this year

Dan's "source".

It's Girardi and there is no Plan B.
Kerry Wood has a personal services contract already written up.

Way to go out on a limb with a "Joe will be fired" narrative after he was not given an extension.

I think Theo has already decided that Joe is not coming back next year. Egos clashing between front office and manager/coach certainly not unheard of here (Bears mid 80's, Bulls mid 90's, Hawks the past few years). This is just something to float in the media so when Joe is not brought back, they can say Joe did not play well with others. This will be especially important if the the Cubs make the playoffs again. It may be hard to explain getting rid of a manager after 5 consecutive playoff appearances.

Girardi is an odd choice. He got fired by Yankees for being a redass and little shit with players.

The Cubs might need a redass now. These are veteran players. They don't need a friend or buddy.

I was talking about Dan's prior stories from his "source".

He said it was Girardi before Maddon was hired.

Berstein has already alluded to this in the past.

Nothing to see here....

Bernstein is just trying to get some interest in his show. Heard his interview with Theo this weekend and he kept fishing for a story.

Dan, "I'm not saying there is anything between you and Happ, but Happ said.... Blah Blah Blah."

Theo is too smart to fall for Dan's dirty media games.

theo has responded and acknowledges that Maddon is faced with discussing this topic at least 5x a day and has no issue with how hes handled it. Bernstein is trying to create perceived instability because it makes his job easier - because its so much easier to just lie about shit - and if hes lucky he gets an angry response from someone and its a sound byte that lives forever

The Cubs may well need more of a kick-in-the-ass manager after five years of Maddon, but do teams hire those guys anymore? Seems like everyone is there to be a more-or-less contemporary of the players while following instructions from upstairs to the letter.

Maddon may be great before games and until the 5th inning. There is something in him that causes him to make far too many shitty decisions after the 5.
