Don't worry. Crying on the air is now a signature Score moment:

Holmes has the same problems he had during the old "Hamp and Holmes" show, many of the ex producers have the same issues when they move into a full time hosting gig. The biggest problem is that interviews get bogged down because the hosts feel the need to formulate questions that the host feels makes them seem smarter than the room which generate either silence or vague responses from the guests. Parkins may be the worst, especially when it comes to football content, you can hear Mac taking over quickly and steering the questions to more content related material. Holmes seems to struggle to fill the show with content, relying on play by play replays or re-running interviews from previous shows and tries to make producers co-hosts (who only echo his thoughts) rather than taking calls which may actually force him to defend his sports thoughts. He should really pay attention to Anthony Herron who is able to deliver solid content no matter who he is paired with as a co-host.

When Larry started interviewing Maddon, he said it wouldn't be conventional. It's very lightweight. Lots of non sports, and certainly never questioning Joe's in game moves.

Bernstein and McKnight are guilty of this as well. I get the impression they stay up at night writing and rewriting their REALLY. SMART. (tedious...) questions.

All very true of Holmes. He's often dismissive of, or condescending to, callers and gets pissy when challenged.

My only quibble with Anthony Herron is he can be very long winded, talking for 4 or 5 minutes at a time which often makes you think he's hosting a solo show. The upside is he's actually saying something during those 4 or 5 minutes, unlike a trainwreck like Mulligan who gets lost in his thoughts, repeats himself, and uses fillers like "um" and "uh" making 90 seconds seem like 4 or 5 minutes.

Exactly.

Imagine getting paid to replay audio from other shows. Mitch Rosen calls in to defend the engineers from Mac's wrath but has no problem with an on air personality apparently not being able to provide enough content for his show and therefore having to rely on other show's?

I could forgive it all if he could pronounce the word "on" correctly and not "auwn."

Trying to prove your smarter than the room leads to some real bad sports thoughts. Bernstein and Holmes loved Trestman because he was supposedly a smart guy. Florio continually said no team should trade for Mack because there was no way he would have in impact without a training camp. They ripped North for making fun of Mike McCaskey, even though they knew he was micromanaging the franchise into oblivion. They problem with sports is that sometimes meatball thoughts are actually fairly accurate.

Often when he talks (shouts) he sounds like he’s using a fake voice, like he’s doing a bit ... he acts like an excitable boy who’s never done radio before

He does. I don't think anyone outside of Parkins will ask a "tough" question. Holmes approach has gotten Maddon to open up more than usual though.

Holmes ain't a bad guy, hes just nerd desperate to fit in. Being socially awkward doesn't help.

He is a creepy attention whore. He is not much different than the red hippo...I mean well other than knowing quite a bit more about sports.

He's not evil. But he's a phony. This boyish image is bullshit. The fake laughter is bullshit. The "wide-eyed" way he looks at the world his bullshit. No 45 year old behaves or talks like him. His true self is when Parkins challenges him and he gets angry. It was stupid as to why he got mad at Parkins. But that's him.

Not the guy that talks about baking cookies. Larry thinks he needs to do that to keep a white audience as a black guy. And he's wrong. Us whites don't want to talk about baking cookies contrary to what Larry thinks of us whites.

He's always brought women on his show who are trying to get established. I think that's pretty cool. Julie is annoying 99% of the time. I would try to soldier through her shows but she almost always found a way to make a simple topic something more than it needed to be.

I also think he'd rather be married to Jason Goff over his current white women wife.

But being married to a women is better for his brand. That's what he thinks. That's why he did it. Which is probably true.

I'm a progressive liberal. I'd have no problem with him being married to Jason Goff. I'd like him more, in fact.

Maybe this is sexist but Holmes does it the way most hosts do. There is something about the way that Julie does it that makes me want to end my life. Maybe that's what she's shooting for.

Unless he's moved, I just wish he would stop lying about where he lives. His home is in Woodlawn, NOT Hyde Park. His crappy basic cookie cutter house would cost $100k more if he was in Hyde Park.

He's been doing it for years and it irritates me each time he lies about it.

I clicked off during transition today. Larry was gushing about seeing “his” Hyde Park neighborhood from a different perspective. I didn't’ even know he lived in a different neighborhood.

larry learned the question thing from bernstein. goff did the same thing. creating a question that takes 30 seconds to ask that has its own plot, climax, and conclusion, just leaves the interviewee no room to really be an expert. it seems you are just trying to get them to agree with you.

i remember bernstein and goff did this with someone and the guy was like WTF are you asking me? and goff hung up on the guy.

It's usually a question masked in the host's supposed knowledge of the subject he's asking about.

He could have said Kenwood. I remember when they were building in Woodlawn in the early 2000's. They were overpriced and they all looked exactly alike.
