In honor of the Bears laying a big ol' stinking egg last night, what are some of your personal 'air out of the balloon' moments? Something- sports wise or other- that you were so hyped and pumped up for, and shortly after the game/event started it was just not even fun, and the wind was gone from your sails very quickly.

-Last night was definitely one of those games for me.

-2007 White Sox opener. I was so ready for the season and so sure the Sox would be good again, and about 4 innings into it, Jose Contreras had given up 7 runs to the Indians in what would be the first of 90 brutal losses.

-2007 Bears opening in San Diego when the offense could just do nothing against the Chargers. The Bears looked old, tired, and could not deal with the warm weather. I think they may have even had a field goal blocked in that game IIRC

-2000? Neil Young concert. Was the single more boring set of music I have ever had to sit thru. I was just a kid then and now I am much more familiar with his catalog as a whole so I might enjoy a show of his now. But back then it was brutal. All these slow, acoustic, folksy numbers where he droned on and played the harmonica for what seemed like hours. The only tunes I knew was Powderfinger and Cowgirl In The Sand. Boring as last night's game.

-I also remember a 2003 or 2004 Sox game that I was listening to on the radio where Damaso Marte blew a game in the bottom of the 9th in KC

If I could distill it down to one play, it would be 4th and 26.

Also, Eli kicking the shit out of a 15-1 Packers team in Lambeau was slightly disappointing.

2011 NFC Championship game. Pretty much the moment Todd Collins hit the field.

Too bad Walter Payton isn't around anymore to opine on this topic.

2018 NCAA hoops championship game, the balloon burst about halfway through the first half, Michigan was up 7, then Villanova flipped the switch on, and led by nine at half, never close after that. A catch-22 game for me, as I had pulled Nova out of my rear to win two pools I was in- ended up tied for like 30th in the country in the ESPN brackets. I made money, but my team played like crap the last 30 minutes of the season.

that was a bad one.

2014 Blackhawks losing to the Blues. The whole series....just felt like they didn't have the horses and it was the end of an era.

'83 Sox....what appeared to be a special time was clearly not as special as the Orioles.

'03 Cubs....the fan in the stands had nothing to do with the team instantaneously squatting into fetal position in a corner.

Doug Buffone's death.

Right. Ok yeah I remember that game. We were in door country. Bunch of packers fans were really giving us the business the whole game, throwing peanuts from the bar at us, talking shit.
After it was all over a few of them walked over with the same beers we were drinking for us. Sat for a while real friendly like, saying now the game was over they could just be neighborly now. Invited us to a keg party.
Weird.

The ND 2013 National Championship Game against Alabama. I was out with a large group at a local bar and was pumped for a good game. We left at halftime.

Agreed on both of those, but the choke against the Seahawks in 2015 highlighted by Bostick blowing the onside kick recovery still pains me.

Yeah, the highlight was Brent Musberger lusting over the QB's girlfriend.

--First game at new Kaminskey in 1991.

--Sox starting rookie Neal Cotts at Yankee Stadium after kicking the shit out of the Yankees at Yankee Stadium in the first two games of the series. Buerhle volunteered to pitch, but Manuel started Cotts and the Sox lost and failed to put some distance between them and Minnesota and KC. Eventually, they'd regain first place and then blow it. You could see the writing on the wall when they didn't go for it at Yankee Stadium. Hawk went nuts.

--Sox not turning a run-scoring double play against the Tigers in 2012.

--Bears first night in newly refurbished Soldier Field. Awful loss to Green Bay.

I was at the Bulls game watching on an overhead TV. When it was 14-0 I knew it was over.
