With Baez out and Addison beaned, look for Cubs to call up Nico Hoerner to help fill gap at short. Cubs' top pick last year, Nico hit .284 at Double-A Tenn.

Try not to suck.

:D

This team is going to be gutted this offseason.

I thought that he had shown in the minors that he wouldn't be able to play SS at the MLB level.

You are so much more plugged into everyday Cubs news than the average person who roots for this team.

Thank you.

Good. 20 games to see where he is at. He profiles as Russell's replacement, mostly 2B but can play SS.

He probably starts next year at AAA unless he hits his ass off in these three weeks.

Depending on whether or not Russell has a concussion or not, it could be several games. He was a SS and has played there a lot. Saying he is not qualified to play there is wrong. However, he projects as an everyday 2B more at this point. This will start the clock on him, so if he fares well, there would be every opportunity for him to vie for the position (2B) and spot at leadoff for 2020. It seems likely they would again, try to move Russell if Hoerner looks like he is ready. He would serve as the backup at SS as well as playing 2B. In effect, replacing Russell. Bote remains the backup at 2B. When they traded Glyber Torres it was a huge mistake. They should have traded Russell (as I said at the time) when he had great value. They could have gotten a lot for him then and had the far better player still. All that talk about sustained success and they have traded away most of their best prospects of late. I'm glad that at least they didn't trade away Hoerner, who should be a solid player.

A year later than needed. Theo is going to write checks all over the place and when it fails like it did in Boston, he will move on to be another savior. At least we got to see one title out of it.

Yesterday's HR reminded me of his first homer in his first MLB at-bat against Carlos Zambrano.

This team wasn’t getting to the NLDS with Baez.

Now they won’t make the playoffs.

Mentioned on the radio pregame.

Good win today. Hopefully they can avoid the typical 0-1-1 runs the next three games.

That has to rival the Castro debut game.

I needed a $2000 SS for my Tuesday FanDuel roster as the Dodgers are in Baltimore so I loaded up on their hitters. So he came up just in time but had his good game a day early. I need that $2.

Joe made it pretty clear in the pregame that Nico is going to start at least until Russell gets back, and maybe longer.

Looks like he can't lay off the curve low & away. Rizzo might of saved him a couple errors at first. Lots of promise though. Bright guy. Hopefully Joe doesn't ruin another one.

Nice job walking 3 batters in the 10th there.

The SD tv guys made an interesting point. Caratini was lining up way off center with a guy who can't find the strike zone. Joe showed a lot of guts with 2 OFs at the end. Would have been interesting if Cishek allowed the ball to be hit. ZZ post game phone calls?

Joe and his horrific bullpen management again. When she shack is bad you have to pull him. Usually is good but the times when he is off he is awful and it just snowballs for him. The .1 IP shit is also getting old. Look at the damn batting order when you make a change and set things up to get the most out of your best pitchers instead of 1 damn batter and then pulling them for a pinch hitter. I have never seen someone burn through a bench and a bullpen like this guy.
