Surely, the fact people care more in a certain area of the country helped to get the specific college athletic program started and funded, but w/e.

You literally googled your answer vs. actually explaining the "why." It's understandable - you clearly don't have a grasp of Title IX, but go right ahead and google it so you can feign knowledge of it.

It's like when IMU performs a motorcycle search on the internet or draws on his Dave & Buster's experience to try and demonstrate his knowledge on motorcycling.

I've only been familiar with Title IX for over 30 years. I don't need access to a search engine to have a discussion about it.

What does this sentence mean? If you are saying enough people care to fund the team that is not true. Sports like field hockey are funded by football and basketball and only exist because of Title 9.

If womens sports had to fund themselves, there would be about 20 basketball programs and nothing else in college and even that would be because most of the facilities are the same ones that the men play in.

Women's rowing has exploded from a niche sport to the main way many colleges balance out men's scholarships and women's. 30 years ago there were maybe a dozen colleges with rowing teams, a few hundred co-ed rowers in the country. Now it's nearly 8,000 women on rowing teams at 150 colleges. And the majority of those women collegiate rowers (i) have never been on a boat and (ii) will never row for their college or any other rowing team. They get some sort of initial, partial scholarship, attend some orientation meetings; maybe try out for the team if they like. If your daughter knows her starboard from her port and doesn't giggle when she hears coxswain she might be able to land a 4 year free ride.

the things i have read about the explosion of rowing roster spots at major colleges does not indicate anything about scholarships (full or otherwise). it's simply a numbers game to provide a counter balance for football rosters.

They can award a certain dollar amount of rowing scholarships, up to whatever the NCAA sez the limit is for that sport. For whatever reason, rowing scholarships can be partial, which allows them to be spread across more students.

I think all the sports for both genders can be partial scholarships besides football and basketball because those are the two sports that grant enough to have a full roster and don't allow partial scholarships. The limits are also strange with decimal points. So baseball can give 11.7 scholarships and tennis 4.5.
