Right about what? If you want to include non-qualifiers for players in the city, Robel Garcia has a higher HR/AB. Possibly others for both teams.

Hell, Nicholas Castellanos as a Cub blows by any other HR/AB at 10.

 Flip flop flip flop!

Eloy has 380 at bats this season. He'll likely end the season with around 450 at bats. This isn't some fly by night Robel Garcia guy who had two good weeks and then sucked and was sent back to the minors.

Eloy is 22 years old and has 24 HRs. He very well could get to 30 by year's end. Schwarber had 16 bombs with a .246avg during his rookie, 22 year old, campaign. This is his fifth season. Has he figured it out?

Fastest Cub to 100 HRs in franchise history. So there's that.

Yep. Only took him three years to get that done. Hopefully Eloy will end up using far more Plexiglass than Schwarber.

I see you failed to mention the amount of PAs or ABs Schwarber had during his rookie season, and the fact that his HR/AB ratio was also higher in his rookie season than Eloy's own.

You're trying to be cute with your selectivity but I believe it only makes you look either foolish or ignorant. Possibly both.

I get the most satisfaction from answers like this which are meant to completely avoid answering the post.

Yes, 3 seasons to get 100+ HRs. What a slouch.

Wake me up when any of these fucks gets to a consistent .950+ OPS for three consecutive months. Until then, they are all Rob Deer with a juiced baseball.

Like the selectivity of slg%, "clutch" stats, OPS late in games, and OPS with RISP like you demonstrated in the Abreu thread last week?

You've done a wonderful job of looking foolish and ignorant at MANY points during this baseball season.

You considering a large set of commonly referenced statistics to be selective is one of your problems. Most individual statistics and most aggregates prove my points about Abreu. Singular, more obsolete statistics that are already represented in the aggregates I present are what you use to try to counter the aggregates.

It's all fairly silly on your part. But I don't have a bachelor's, as Darkside pointed out. So all I can suggest is that you speak to someone with a statistical background or a baseball front office background. They can help you.

Statistics are not obsolete. You can talk about oWAR and HR-W (HR - wind speed) and BBTSHBC (batted balls that should have been caught) or whatever other math formula you want to. The fact is that there are still quantifiable stats that have always been counted, and will always been counted. Abreu happens to be higher than Rizzo in, well, just about all of them so its natural you want to discount that.

It's quite clear you need the education more than anybody. Proclaiming yourself the baseball messiah is laughable. Not being able to realize that people here just smile and nod while patting you on the head like a puppy is pathetic.

And yet Rizzo is leaguewide considered to be the better hitter and first baseman than Abreu. It bothers you probably more than anything I say does.

You believe select counting stats to be king and OPS to be meaningless when the league's analysts, reporters and front offices think the opposite.

I do not dismiss any stat, traditional or metric. I have been consistent in saying that looking at only ONE stat to determine a player's worth is stupid, foolish, and ignorant. You repeatedly harp on one stat to prop up or drag a guy down. There is nothing more that needs to be said.

We've also been repeatedly told by supposed students of the game that defense at 1st base doesn't matter. And here you are bringing it up again when talking about Rizzo. Evidently, defense at the #3 position only matters for certain pinstriped players. Foolish.

I've never said defense is unimportant at any position. If you want to attribute that as a common opinion, then source it. Which students of the game say this?

Furthermore, Rizzo is a better batter than Abreu. We're not focusing on defense or baserunning or leadership when comparing the two. Isolating plate appearances and considering nothing else...Rizzo is the better player.

Yes, this year, he is. And for several years now. Next spring when all the positional rankings come out, Rizzo will once again be ahead. And no one will say "this order is based purely on an edge Rizzo has in defense and we've completely ignored how Frank Coztansa bets his life on Abreu being a significantly better hitter."

The Soler deal was awful. You only make it, IF you're planning to sign Wade back. You think of the guys the Great Theo traded: DJ, Soler, Torres, and Eloy, yikes.

Eloy and Torres dont bother me. But Soler WAS a part of the core. He already was showing signs of success. Had a HUGE 2015 playoffs. SO what did we do? Sign Heyward and suffocated him into LF with Schwarber.

Think if we had Soler instead of Heyward this year and for years to come.

Eloy and Torres were unproven at the time. Single A players. Probably Torres Id love to have but at that time we had Baez and Russell (great 2016) and Zobrist, we were fine up the middle.
