IMO the only untouchables on this roster are Baez, Contreras, and maybe Rizzo (Primarily for his glove).

Everyone else can be sold off to replenish the farm system and somehow acquire a great youngish starting pitcher .

Who will survive the purge in your opinion?

Theo has a lot of bad money spent to answer for.

Stay:
Baez
Rizzo
Schwarber
Caratini
Nico

Gone
Contreras
Bryant
Almora

I would ship Happ out but I don't think he has a ton of value and he is worth more in potential than the return.

Contreras is still baseball stupid, bad defensively and now injury prone. He will get you a haul though. If they trust that Amaya is going to be a guy then pull the trigger. Bryant will also get you a haul and seeing as they are not going to give him a new massive contract it makes sense to get value while he is still under control. Almora can blow for the Marlins AAA team next year.

What can the Cubs get in return for Bryant?

I understand your reasoning behind moving Contreras, but plus hitting catchers are hard to find. I’d give him another season to see just how injury prone he is. I’d def move Caratini and bring up Amaya tho.

The only team I can see giving up talent because they know they can sign him is LA. I want Lux, Verdugo and May. They won't include May but it doesn't mean I wouldn't try anyways. So Lux, Verdugo and a pitcher. These are huge prospects that are MLB players now but Bryant was an MVP and is young. The Dodgers also grow prospects like weeds so its not like they wont have more next year.

- Castellanos needs to stay. It's probably a mirage, but you have to see...
- Rizzo is on a team friendly contract and he actually tries to lead.
- Baez is not irreplaceable, but you won't get fair value back. He needs to be the #2 star but on this team he is forced to be the lead
- Darvish seems to have figured it out, or finally isn't hurt
- Caratini has been a big part of Darvish's emergence, and he hits well enough to start 95 games a year and can play 1B and give Rizzo a day off against tough lefties
- I'm fine with keeping Hendricks and Quintana, someone has to pitch. But I'm also fine with trading them.
- Keep Hoerner and let him play every day at 2B and bat 9th until he is ready to lead off

Hoerner, Castellanos, Rizzo, Baez, Caratini, (Heyward I guess), Bote, and a cheap defensive CF platooning with a cheap power guy like Adam Duvall in LF.

Everybody else goes if possible. Including any minor leaguer. All the Theo #1 draft picks except Hoerner have to go.

Brailyn Marquez is not tradeable. He looks absolutely ferocious.

Jason McLeod head of the draft and farm system basically got the axe, but of course is still on the payroll. He'll be a Theo waterboy with Jed. With the Cubs draft failures how does JM not get fired? Ricketts should of stepped in and personally fired JM. Nobodies pushing the underachievers. They keep getting called up and keep failing. I think the only hope is a new front office team. But, that might be far off if the Ricketts are happier making money than reversing a closing window competitive team. I think this 2019 team will have the best chance to win than future Cubs Theo teams.

I really couldn’t trade Contreras no matter how bad he is at framing pitches.

They should trade Bryant if they can get a haul. He's not as good as everybody says. Good? Yes. Not elite. And the fucking numbers say he's elite. So some nerd GM from another team will give 2 top prospects with him having 2 years of control. Do it. Cuz you can't afford to sign him if you keep Baez and Conteres. So build up with kids to keep this Cub thing going. That's the smart move.

Lots of bad money, and bad trades. I will never understand the love. He is going to get the Kenny Williams treatment by Ricketts.

Terrible framing, reckless throws that result in days like today where 7 runs resulted from those throws, injury prone and just baseball stupid overall. He should be an outfielder at this point. He has not shown any maturity on the field. The umpires also hate him which shrinks everyone's zone. I'd rather he play OF but there is just no way they will do that with him here.

That's why I think he should go to an AL team where he can catch 70, DH 50, and play LF/1B 30. As an example, the Mariners are running three catchers (Murphy, Zavala, and Nola) and Vogelbach through C/1B/DH. With rosters expanding to 26, a team like the Indians may bite on Contreras.
