Latest Ken Burns documentary series on PBS.

Episode 1 about the beginnings has been solid. I expect the rest to follow suit and pick up once they hit the 50s/60s/70s.

I always wonder how Hank Williams could have such a raging penis like his idiot son. But then again, maybe his talents just skipped a generation to his grandson.

I'd rather listen to country music than watch it.

The country went to hell when all the angry white men turned over to Rush Limbaugh.

Huh, did you just say that Hank Jr. has no talent? And then double downed by suggesting that Hank 3 actually has talent? That's a really fucking stupid thing to say. Hank Jr. is awesome. Hank 3 is awful.

I've watched it the last 2 nights.....very interesting.

Knew the Carter family existed, but did not know how far back they went. Really cool stuff.
I must admit, I had no idea Hank Willams wrote "Move It On Over". Dude lived some hard miles....shit...died at 29 in the back seat of a car on a road trip. wow.

Being a raging penis known only for a stupid Monday Night Football song in arguably the worst era of country music suggests modest, at best talent. But really imo he has none. Hank 3 isn't in my playlist, but I did enjoy his music awhile back.

It's hard not to like the song "Family Tradition", but that's about it for Hank Jr. His life's work is pretty awful...and that includes the MNF song. Bad.

I enjoy "Country Boy Can Survive" once in a while too.

His peenusry shouldn't diminish those.

you basically hit it on the head. i have his box set and listened through it once and its mostly trash .

I love old country music. its what my grandfather listened to out in the shop, in the care everywhere so its basically pure nostalgia for me.

I am no fan of Hank Williams Jr. by any means. I like a few songs on the radio and never bought a thing. What I don't get is Reader's post. I get thinking Junior is a raging penis that might be some sort of drug and alcohol racist. His dad though died early from a heart attack and was also a big drunk and likely took as many pills as Johnny Cash and all the rest but even earlier on. I never make excuses for people but it should come as no surprise Hank Jr. was a fucked up person due to genes and losing his dad early.

What don't you get? He's a raging prick who doesn't have an interesting or entertaing catalog. Imho. Seeing his punch me face just prompted my post.

Baskin Robbins has 31 flavors for a reason.

He has a few good ones. A country boy can survive is a great song. Libs ought to give a listen to understand the enemy. I believe his original face was erased in a rock climbing accident?

I thought you were saying he was all of that and you were surprised because his daddy was a dandy guy. He wasn't from what I understand that is all.

Hank Jr has some ok stuff. Family tradition is great. He has been around forever so there is a massive amount of crap as well. I can't believe none of you like to get down to "If The South Would've won" or "If heaven aint a lot like dixie"

Hank III is outstanding. I saw him live 10 or so years ago. He could have been huge if he stayed in the lane Nashville wanted him to all he wanted to do was put the Dick in Dixies and the Caller Bob back in Country. He has also been the president of team weed for about his entire adult life. I always thought his cover of "Atlantic City" was phenomenal.

Most stuff from the late seventies on is where I lost interest. The older musicians were more inclusive in their themes and more people were welcomed to the table. (Even though I remember being puzzled by Charley Pride) After that everything became an homage to the "Old South" or frosted & blow dried pablum. No thanks.

you guys are nuts. Hank Jr. has MANY great songs.

Family Tradition
Whiskey Bent and Hell Bound
Women I've never had
Dinosaur
All my rowdy friends have settled down
country boy can survive
if heaven ain't a lot like dixie
The Conversation
Man of Steel
This aint Dallas
If the south would've won
Good friends, good whiskey

Those are all great songs. Whiskey Bent and Hell Bound and The Conversation in particular are objectively amazing songs.

I hate channel 11.

Now I'm riveted by a show on Vivaldi, violinists and violin craftsmen.

Didn't you post your love of bluegrass music? Did I dream that? PBS special...three days was too much for me. But I watched almost all of it anyhow.
