The window hasn't closed on this team. They do need to launch Joe and make a few moves...mostly involving the pitching staff.

Cueto, Samardzija, or Upton interest you?
Cueto has pitched fine since he came back.

Let's see, they've played 45 1-run games and lost 26 of them. Mostly due to poor bullpen management and performance. They could very easily have 10-15 more wins.

So go suck a few dicks tonight Mike.

I think they are slightly below .500 since mid-May.

I look at this team and see a bunch of solid starters, but no ace. Darvish should be an ace given his contract and has had a nice 2nd half, but I don't think he's more than a #2 type if he's locked in. Hendricks is a good pitcher, but not an ace, probably #2 or a higher end #3. Lester, Hamels and Quintana are innings eaters. It's not easy to find an ace though, but it's probably time to look at this rotation and explore making changes.

I expect Darvish, Hendricks and Lester to be in the rotation, but maybe they look at what options they have.

The bullpen has been bad. They are going to make moves there, probably 1-2 new veteran relievers with track records.

Offensively, this lineup has too many games where they don't score enough runs. They are likely locked in with Contreras, Rizzo, Heyward, but will they look at moving Bryant, Schwarber....

It will be interesting to see if they commit to adding any younger talent to the organization or move/add to the current team in an attempt to continue competing with this team.

We'll take Quintana back for Daniel Palka. What do you say Cubs?

Quintana does have that contract that makes him very attractive through 2021. He hasn't lived up to expectations with the Cubs. Will be interesting if the Cubs consider using him a trading chip given that he's not a front-line starter, but is affordable and does provide innings.

They are going to have Darvish, Lester and Hendricks in the rotation next season. Do they try and upgrade or change-up the bottom half? I don't expect them to bring back Hamels, at least on a $20M deal.

Quintana only signed through 2020. He makes sense to a team like Tampa for a top 15 prospect.

It depends. They may be ok with him given his contract isn't that expensive. They may think he's fine as a #4 starter given that he does take the ball every 5th day.

At the same time, they may want to revamp the team a bit more and he could be a trade chip. While he's been dependable in that he throws every 5th day, he hasn't been what they thought.

33-22 4.18

That makes him better than a #4. He's reasonably priced. Sure they could unload him. I just don't see the point.

How much better do you think the Cubs expected?

If anything, they should try to extend him 2 years.

You dont wanna give up Quintana and endure receiving 25% (or less) of what it took to get him in the first place.

After this week's shit show and the brawl that is likely to occur in Pittsburgh, I expect 15 new players in their top 45 (40-man roster plus top 5 prospects not on the 40-man).

Only Rizzo, Baez, Darvish, and one of the catchers are safe. They need to get Jack McKeon to be an advisor over the weekend to help with all the trades.

whats with this trading Bryant rage?

He is a good player. People treat him like he sux dogshit. Sure, he is a puss, but at the end of the day his numbers are always there.

Why the rush to trade him?

High arbitration number, isn't going to re-sign with the team, get what you can for him now. Because if the team sucks next year, you will have to trade him at the deadline anyway and will probably get a lot less.

I don't understand why trading Bryant is even questioned. Time to break this shit up.

The Padres wont do it. They have too much money already committed to add Bryant.

The Braves are pretty intriguing though. You wont get Albies or Acuna and I think there is mutual disinterest among both the Cubs and Braves in including Fred Freeman in such a deal. But everyone else is surely on the table, including Soroka.

I reckon Bryant is worth about what Chris Sale was worth in 2016. That's probably the last time a player on his level was dealt while still in his mid-twenties. Bryant doesn't have the Sale contract but he is a position player. A soft position player but nonetheless the perception will make up for the fact his contract isn't as good.

Either way I think you have a few options at deals that all involve Christian Pache or Drew Waters. I suppose you could get both for him too, but then you're not getting any of the arms you really want.

I still think the Giants or Angels would be good fits.

Mets half game back of Cubs. Philly game and a half, Dbacks 2.

Cubs looking to tank for the better draft pick. I should have figured that out 4 games ago.
