On my 16th birthday my brother and his friend walked into my Chemistry class and pulled me out. Thought it was something serious for a second but instead they took me to Arlington.. not sure how they cleared that with the school or my folks but no one ever asked any questions.

My grandfather used to run claimers (I believe that’s the word I’m looking for) in western Pennsylvania as a hobby. Well, his idea of a hobby was anything that didn’t loose him too much money. Had one filly that made enough money over her career and in selling her that I guess he broke even but I wonder about that. The man liked his horses even though he wouldn’t gamble on them. Maybe when he was a younger man.

Were your grandfather's horses harness horses?

Tuesday should be very interesting. I may go down to the Thompson Center if I don't have anything else going on.

I expect that the 2020 dates will be awarded to Arlington. But it would not shock me if Petrillo and/or Carstanjen show up and said they want to withdraw their application for dates.

It would be great if Arlington Heights/Illinois eventually used eminent domain to take over the racetrack, but I suspect CDI has too much juice for that to ever happen. Eminent domain is usually only used against poor people.

Going to be honest.. I have no clue. I was maybe 5 or 6 when he stopped doing it so all I get all bits and pieces on this. We weren’t particularly close until much later in life as he had little use for anyone under 25 or so it seemed, so all the stories are second hand from my Dad and Mom and a few side comments from him that as a teen I probably completely ignored. I’ll have to ask the next time I talk with my dad.

I'm guessing that in Western PA they were.

Then we definitely need to have a CFMB meetup. I Know Jack and shit about horse racing, but I have thoroughly enjoyed going to the track having a few beers and placing a few bets the few times I've done it.

With the employees furloughed and racing delayed will this be the crisis that kills the sick man?

I would say there's a reasonable chance that Arlington has seen its last live race card.

On an added note, I can't imagine who would pay $4320 for a box out there.
