You’re joking right?

Are you one of those twitter Cub fans?

This very talented team didn't make the damn playoffs. Do you guys get that? Nope.

You'll never understand my point. So I'll just talk to the demons in my head. They understand me.

But this team has been essentially mediocre for the the last 250 games or so. Hard to be truly disappointed in your team missing the playoffs when it’s clear they don’t deserve to win the division and are clearly inferior to the other wild card teams.

03 was devastating. 07 and 08...best team in the NL then get swept out of the playoffs. DLee , ARam , and Soriano go 0 for 180 at the plate with 170 strikeouts. That’s disappointing

This team just sucked. Most errors in the league, most outs on the base paths, etc, etc.. BASURA

But they shouldn't have been mediocre for the last 250 games. That's my god damn point. You guys just refuse to understand and/or agree because you hate me.

I see your point on the 2006 Bears, I thought they were going to blow the Colts out after that first quarter. I guess I don't consider it disappointing though because I thought going into the game that Manning was going to be the reason the Bears lost.

I just love how you rank playoff losers as the worst in history. You are all thinking about the sting of losing playoff games/series. Cuz you have that memory. And they hurt bad.

But this team should have made the playoffs easily for the right to lose one. You just can't process the fact that this Cubs season was the worst cuz you don't have a memory of a bad playoff loss.

You just don't think properly.

I'll give you the first one (& damn was that year as enjoyable as their flop in 85), but no way on the rest.

Which Cubbie lands in Cancun on vacation first?

Maybe one of the asshole Ricketts, counting the season tix revenue from next year's lemmings. :D

You didn't read my entire paragraph up there. This team wasn't going to easily make the playoffs. Too many flaws. Schwarber? Inconsistent last year. Heyward? Fucking useless. Almora Jr.? Eh? Russell? Suspended. Zobrist? Old. That leaves Bryant, Baez, Contreras and Rizzo to carry the offense. I already explained the issues with the pitching staff. I'm sorry, but entering this season, I didn't think it would be that easy to make the playoffs.

Was 2012 the year Rose dropped 36 on the Celtics the first game of the playoff series?

How can this year be NOT one of the most disappointing? How can you be 6 games over .500 and have a +100 run differential? JHC, that seems to be impossible, but there it is.

It really doesn't matter. Us old heads knew those teams could never get past the LeBrons.

I was only 10 in 1992 and had only been a baseball fan for 3 or 4 years so I hadn't experienced a lot of pain but 1992 felt like it was the year.

I don't remember a lot of the Bears choke jobs in the 80's and I didn't love football until many years later.

Derrick Rose blowing out his knee destroyed a likely championship season. I didn't cry like I did in the 80's when the Pistons were eliminating the Bulls but that season was disappointing to me. I hated seeing LeBron win.

For a kid me, it was 77. Not only did the Sox fade hard after a strong start, but the Bears shockingly made the playoffs only to get annihilated by the fucking Cowboys. On my birthday no less. And I'd never seen a playoff game involving a Chicago team.

That my next one was the one where the refs and Eagles stole one.

I still hate both of those franchises. No, all of them.

Christ. Do you mention the Brewers huge flaws? Which were more then the Cubs. Do you mention the Cardinals flaws? Nope.

Every GM in baseball wouldn't trade the entire Cubs roster for the rosters of the Cardinals or Brewers. Especially the Brewers.

I win. As always, I'm the only one that knows it.

Because when you win 5 in a row and outscore your opponent 46-15 and then lose 5 in a row by a combined 5 runs.....that makes you 5-5 with a +26 win differential...and that’s just a 10 game sample. There’s not a cause and effect relationship between run differential and W-L record. Pretty straight forward.

Easily the 86 Bears. There hadn't been a team that dominant since the Steel Curtain.

That flop was squarely on the idiot Ditka. The next year it was on the McCaskey family.

And Joe Gibbs is still laughing all the way to the bank.

Should have started Tomczak. They had to alter the offense on the fly because Ditka thought he was an offensive genius.

Theo really struggles to identify pitching. They don't draft it and they can't identify it on the major league level. They thought Russell, Schwarber and Almora would develop into star players. This was a failure in self scouting more than anything else.

Cubs won a title in 2016. It's at least 20 years until a season can be considered for most disappointing.

Self-scouting is a huge problem.

I don't think that is entirely accurate. Theo has no doubt struggled to draft pitching. But he has identified it on the major league level quite well. Arrieta, Strop, Hendricks, Lester, Hamels have all been good and important moves over his time here. Just for some strange reason he cannot identify good pitching prospects in the draft.

Run differential is statistically the biggest predictor of W-L record. The Cubs and Brewers happen to be huge outliers this year.

White Sox fans seem to be taking this Cubs season very hard.

I hope they can find a way to cope.

I don't care about the Brewers and Cardinals. The expectation of this team in 2017 for MANY was World Series. When the Dodgers whipped their ass sideways and stupid, the expectation for MANY in 2018 was to get back to the playoffs and make a run, which they failed miserably to do. Going into this year? Remember when PECOTA had them in 3rd place with 82 wins and every Cubs meatball went on social media and sports radio and said PECOTA is bullshit and sucks? And the team used it as a rallying cry? Amazingly, the Cubs right now have 82 wins and are in third place.

Disappointment levels are sourced from expectation levels. If you went into this season with such high expectations, you were misled. This team wasn't World Series or bust. It was "hey we spent a shit ton of money the past few years on useless free agents, made some good trades, made some bad trades, and now we can't spend any more to fix the obvious gaps." So, where they finished shouldn't have been a disappointment to you at the level of disappointment from the previous two seasons.
