Kind of. There are some who think Baez is a God and the best tagger ever to have worn a baseball mitt. They will make up some sort of metric in that regard so he can be "the best" at something other than losing his helmet on swings. But, thats what Cubs fans and media have done for years.

Anderson is having a wonderful offensive season, but he is just above a butcher at SS. His defense needs to drastically improve if the Sox are to become a Championship team over the next few years.

Nah. He can be an average short-stop and they can win a championship. You don't need a team of golden glovers at every position, especially in this age of the juiced ball and grooved swings. This really is a totally different baseball game we are seeing in the last few years. I really don't like the game but it is what it is.

Is range factor affected by shifts? In other words, if Baez is playing in a better position (instructed by the coaches), and he therefore gets to more balls than if he were in the standard SS position, does that help his RF or does it not matter?

I'd say that it is. If the shift employed results in a guy making more put outs and assists because of where they put him. However, that also can mean that he might have more errors because he is forced to make throws from places on the field that he isn't used to making. A couple of games ago, Anderson has a ground ball rocket hit to him where he had to backhand the ball to the 1st base side of 2nd base and throw across his body to first. He got it there but Abreu had to make a nice play himself to get the out. Now, just on that play, Anderson's range factor would increase because of the assist that he had but he came pretty close to getting an error on the throw depending on the official scorers opinion.

He's closing the gap rather quickly.

The important issue in this is will Anderson and Moncada be able to build on this yr or is this a career year for them. The Sox will need them to be this good when they are ready to compete.

well, my guess is that a batting title is going to be a career year. That said, I expect him to have more HR than he has this year and a lot more SB. My guess is he will lead the league in SB one of these years. He was really burning it up early this year before injuries hit. His defense will probably not get better.

I think its going to be a legit question in the future of who would you rather have at SS once hits the heavy arb and FA years

The sky is the limit for Moncada. Not to go all Len but I expect him to compete for MVP one of these years.

You're not really being contentious when you say a 24 year old former-number-one-overall-prospect-in-baseball who just put up a 5.4 fWAR season (in a year he spent some time on the IL) is going to be an MVP caliber player.

There is a tier of Trout, Yelich, Bregman, Chapman. Moncada is in the the tier just below that.

Chapman is marginally worse than Yelich or Trout but he's closer to them than he is to Moncada.

I guess I wonder how Rendon is not in Tier 1 but Chapman is. Arenado as well. Betts. Altuve. Bellinger. Jose Ramirez.

Chapman is good, but he is definitely the prime example of fWAR overrating defense. I'd think Chapman is a 2nd or 3rd tier player. I put him where I put Kris Bryant.

They are both very young. They also do not have to be as great as they have been this year for the White Sox to thrive because both of them are elite in their respective positions. With Robert, Mercedes, Mendick, Madrigal, and Kopech in the Pipeline, things really look very good.

Who is Kris Bryant?

He's developed into a better hitter than I ever imagined....i still have concerns with his defense. Championship teams have better defensive SS on their rosters.
