Pitt threw it deep in a go route. To say there was incidental contact would be an overstatement. oPI was called, challenged, and upheld.

This was as obvious a no call as the Saints Rams play was a PI.

To be honest I think the replay review of pi is going to nearly always yield similar results. They have no intention of overturning any of those.

One was overturned in the Philly GB game. Iirc Alshon was called for OPI on his TD and it was correctly overturned. I can’t recall any others.

NFL officiating has been at crisis levels for years. The refs are obsessed with being part of the game, they want their fingerprints on every play. The ego rush they get from throw the flag and going on the PA is exhilarating and soothes their self importance.

Keep in mind these are the dregs of society. The worst types of people. If it weren't for the NFL they'd be writing parking tickets or working for the IRS. They are amoral and sociopathic beings. The old guard of NFL refs had a different set of values but these guys have brought up now are truly a different breed. They need to all be fired and kept under strict surveillance, or perhaps turned against our enemies to undermine their institutions.

As this has gone on, I feel more and more that I cannot blame the refs at all. They are not the ones changing the rules year in and year out. They are not the ones changing the replays year in and year out. They are not the ones deciding what calls to 'focus' on year in and year out. They have a split second to decide if a hit or a play violates a new rule, and if they need to throw a flag or not.

Blame the NFL itself and all of the nonsensical rule changes. The refs are just out there trying to do their job-- on a fucking part time basis, mind you-- and interpret the monstrosity that is now the NFL Rule Book.

watch that video. the best part is the end when he draws an arrow on screen pointing to what he thinks is the ball on the ground.... on screen though all you see is blurry darkness. somehow al riveron thought that blurry image of nothing was clear disputable evidence to overturn the ruling on the field of a TD.

Agreed, but lets pump the brakes on the "part-time" sympathy. they get full-time money (200K / year). Still....the NFL has overcomplicated their product and made this a no-win situation.

challenges and replay are a joke. Each game should have a booth replay official where they ensure calls are correct and they can simply headset to the on the field officials.

the officials are starting to use the scoreboard replays to help make their decisions. When you see a group of them talking... there is always one facing the scoreboard watching the replay so they can then decide whether or not there actually was a penalty... good for them for gaming the system a bit, but i still laugh when i see them doing it.

I'm not talking about their compensation, wd.

My point is they have to learn all of these rule changes on top of what the league wants to focus on, and what can and cannot be challenged, on a part time basis. Dumbing down a lot of the rules and making the officials- or at least the head referees- full time employees would help the games and calls immensely.

The odd thing is they made a bunch of refs full time in 2018, then reverted them back to part time in 2019 as part of a labor dispute. This, of course, punished anyone that quit a job in 2018 to become a full time employee of the NFL.
