Spiegs brought this up yesterday morning on Inside The Clubhouse and it was comical listening to Levine trying to explain it away.

Who would take advice from the owner of the Chicago White Sox? Even Samson intimated he rolled his eyes.

That said, I don't believe it. It's extraordinarily stupid. And if I have to lay out the reasons it's extraordinarily stupid, then you are extraordinarily stupid.

MANY ladies would disagree.

I heard that as well. It was completely ridiculous. Most of the beat reporters in this town are just PR flacks for the organizations they cover. I wonder if we're unique in that regard, or if it is par for the course all over the nation?

While he's hardly the only owner who thinks this way (just got caught) what a fucking jackass

I'm pissed off as a Bulls fan (this thought clearly applies to them too) and I'd be super pissed off if I was a White Sox fan

I wouldn't doubt that Jerry would have said that. He is as cold blooded as it gets. I'd say that if he doesn't give Hahn the okay to bring in some much needed pitching and a good right fielder, it will cinch it for the world of Sox fans.

No!!! Jerry says it's no good having playoff games with 40,000 paying customers.

There was a string there in the 90s where they seemed to eternally finish in second place and spend less than teams in the division from far smaller markets.

Apparently he said it to Jack McDowell also. The Stone pony went after the Miami guy. Pony will be quiet now.

Uncle Jerry has more championships than all other Chicago teams combined in most of our lifetimes but many keep searching for reasons to criticize him.

Hard to lose with Michael and Pippen even if you're aiming at 2nd place.

Too many excuses for excellence. He has 7, how many does every other Chicago team have in your lifetime? Have some respect for the GOAT of Chicago sports owners.

All other Chicago major sport franchises have been to the championship game and/or won a title or multiple titles since his last one.

You don't have to search long and hard to find those reasons.

Because fans need a reason to complain. He dominated the 90's and brought the first WS to Chicago since Big Bill first became mayor. He's by far the best owner in the history of the city.

You mean when the A's got Harold Baines and Willie McGee and the Sox got Minnie Minoso and Phil Bradley? Or was it Cory Snyder? Pathetic.

Rocky win 3 and Chicago wants to blow him, but Uncle Jerry has 7 and FF and many others want him dead. I'm only okay at math, but I'm confident 7 is better than 3. How many other owners can say they've broken championship droughts with 2 teams in 20 years or ever? Have some respect for a legend.

Michael Jordan is a legend. Frank Thomas is a legend. You should troll this well on behalf of the other crooked, loophole-exploiting real estate maven we talk about here all the time.

Uncle Jerry is a legend at the bank and the trophy room. He has more titles than Jordan. Big Hurt is one of my favorite players of all time but he didn't earn 1 championship.

You aren't a Sox fan so I can understand how you would be duped into combining his accomplishments.

I am so I'll help you out: 38 years of ownership with one world series isn't an accomplishment. We look back on Sox history and consider it defined by futility after 1919 and rightfully so. The Sox got to a World Series 40 years after 1919 (during a much tougher era in which to compete). They went again 46 years later in 2005!

The JR era of Sox ownership is not only not exceptional, it is eerily similar to the previous 100 years....the years we consider to be an embarrassment.

The discussion is only regarding on the field success but the JR ownership era is better defined by his assault on the fanbase. His FIRST act, upon buying the team was to fire beloved broadcasters Harry Caray and Jimmy Piersall. Consider the PR ramifications of that move as the Cubs milk the memory of Harry even to this day. He then removed the Sox from free to pay TV, the single biggest move in ushering in the era of Cub attendance championships. Think about how those two moves alone have altered the city and national perspective of the Sox. Everything that the Cubs have become in terms of PR could have been the Sox by staying on WGN and keeping Harry.

Then JR provided us the ultimate insult in threatening to leave Chicago and taking steps to follow through on the threat. Instead, he bilked the state of money after sprinkling around heavy donations to legislatures to get his stadium approved with a sweetheart deal. He displaced an entire neighborhood (one of Chicago's oldest mind you) instead of building on his existing footprint because the logistics of doing so were not favorable to him. He chose a design for the new stadium that harkened back to the worst architectural era of stadium design because it maximized sky boxes (some of which still have not been built out TO THIS DAY due to lack of interest) rather than the retro design used for every single ballpark since.

He has allowed his management to disgrace legends. He has allowed his front office to openly disrespect fans. He engineered a work stoppage while he had possibly his best team.

but he always made his partners money...that would be the epitaph written on his Sox tombstone.

His Bulls history is different.
