I didn't write that Steve Kerr was being a "patriot"

Bet THAT one has a good back story

This is kinda like the "oh you don't like poverty? Why didn't you have 15 homeless people living with you?"

Or "you claim climate change is a problem but you don't walk 50 miles to work each day???"

Although Kerr is being a patriot here, I don't care for that argument typically

It's really not like that at all. He's obviously an intellectual guy. He certainly considers himself one. He's a worldly and educated guy. He has all kinds of opinions that he espouses that are far outside the realm of basketball. That's all fine. But suddenly he acts like an Alzheimer's patient when asked directly about this one issue and acts like there's some confusion regarding a totalitarian government beating down people in the street.

Nobody is asking him to pick up a rifle and defend Hong Kong. It's really not outlandish to expect that he might simply say, "I stand with people fighting for freedom everywhere and support Mr. Morey's sentiments regarding Hong Kong."

If the criticism is contained to his thoughts here, that makes sense

But bitching out here doesnt speak to his opinions on other things people will no doubt try to say it does.

Its possible to be righteous on one thing and wrong or hypocritical on another

Morey says he supports the protesters in Hong Kong, yet the very team he’s the GM of is in the state full of immigrant detention centers. Checkmate Libtards!

If Morey were the owner and not simply the GM he doesn't make that statement either. He has no financial skin in the game that is why he made the statement.

That's a little outlandish in how it's worded. If I fight for freedom from the oppressive governments of Illinois and the city of Naperville will you support me in my fight?

In a position of power like he has, he knows better than to say that. Regardless of how true it is.

I think there's more to it than that. Or at least, that doesn't apply to everyone.

This is all building up to "Free Hong Kong" chants at Philly games and elsewhere. That'll be fun.

It's too soon to talk about Hong Kong. Morey once wore an offensive t-shirt. He's just a worker.

ESPN won't talk about the crisis on the air or give you any background, but they'll use CCP provided propaganda maps without blinking

Kerr is no stranger to the consequences of high-stakes international discord. His father Malcolm Kerr was shot and killed in 1983 in Beirut during a larger military conflict in Lebanon. He was the the president of the American University of Beirut.

Kerr was an 18-year-old freshman at Arizona at the time of his father’s assassination, an incident that has surely shaped his approach to discussing larger social issues at home and abroad.

^yet the little b&tch can't so much as stand up for the most basic of inalienable rights.

He's only willing to take a stand when it won't impact his wallet.

If you want to look up to someone, don't look up to a jackass like Steve Kerr. Look up to Matt Stone and Trey Parker. They could make millions in merchandise and licensing in China, but they decided their Tegridy was more important.

Another NBA player being a little b*tch

No wonder these little babies need to be carried off the court whenever they get a little cramp

I don't have a problem with players staying quiet.

If they get asked the question, say I have no idea and no thoughts on it.

I watch less basketball than any other sport except hockey. How many cops have you killed? You've talked tough about cops needing to be murdered for years but I don't think you've actually killed any. You have extensive military experience so it shouldn't be difficult for you. I would really hate to think you haven't murdered a cop because you are a little...

Our president promised not to speak out. I love your passion my friend but why do you expect athletes and coaches to speak out about events in other countries?

After reading the latest report on organ harvesting the Uighurs while they are awake with no anesthesia I really think the NBA taking an aggressive stand against China would not be a good thing.

Ogie, this isn’t one of those things where you want a war, but you aren’t willing to fight in it like your cop killing beliefs is it?

You're clearly unhinged and this is obviously personal in a weird way for you. If you want to criticize the league, fine, go ahead. They deserve some criticism. You sound like a moron criticizing Steph Curry because he's not an expert in geopolitics.

I've been attacking Blizzard, Disney, etc. throughout this thread as well. (while praising Matt Stone and Trey Parker for being the only people with any Tegridy)

Steph Curry is in China so that's why he should answer instead of Lauri Markkanen. He had no problem speaking out about gun control so being asked about the most basic of inalienable rights should be easy.

You don't have to be an expert in geopolitics to say that self determination is an important right.
You don't have to be an expert in geopolitics to say that free speech is an important right.
You don't have to be an expert in geopolitics to say that organ harvesting from political prisoners is wrong.
You don't have to be an expert in geopolitics to say that putting an entire ethnic group in concentration camps is wrong.

The answer that should come out of the players is something like this. "I really am sad about the situation in China and hope that the people there can resolve their differences without any further bloodshed". We aren't talking about a group of intellectuals here. Most were passed through high school and one or two years of college.

Other than saying something like that, they should just shut up and dribble. Kerr is an educated man and is very smart. He, therefore, is more in a spot because he pontificates his ass off on things that he knows vey little about. So does Popcorn head, Popovich.
