I know some people have been criticizing this board recently for what it is not or for what it no longer is, but this (apart from when someone is going through hell and others try to support them via language, which some might cynically say does not matter, though it does) is an example of the board at its finest. My ability to analyze has been expanded and I now have points-of-view in my cabeza that I did not have--and perhaps could not have had--before.

And I hate to say it, but it also helped that some of the dumb-asses in the politics section* were not chiming in with their unsupportable claims. No one derailing the discussion in non-productive ways.

The extent to which this has taken China way off guard cannot be understated. They usually propagate these kinds of stories to rile up their domestic base while counting on the fact that Americans are too concerned with arguing over pronouns or Stormy Daniels to notice.
